The captain glared at the main viewscreen - the wormhole was getting larger; his ship was accelerating. "Bridge, Science." "Go ahead," the captain said via intercomm. "Our models show the wormholes gravitic pull will increase by a factor of sixteen in local space." "Thank you, Science." The captain took the time to check the bridge crew's faces. They seemed level-headed, cool and competent. A few of them met his gaze, gaining reassurance from his mask of calm competence. 'Just act like you've got a plan,' he thought. "Red alert. Helm, idle thrust. Take us in," he said. There was a small shove seatward as the ship's acceleration changed. They passed into the distorted mirror-like mouth of the wormhole. Space stretched before him on the viewscreens, stars stretching into lines and whorls of color seeping into the cracks. Aft cameras displayed their last image of home space - a rapidly shrinking fisheyed distortion. The ship shudders and groans as it traverses the wormhole. Tortuous shapes shift unendingly around the ship. "We've lost star tracking," Astrogation reported. "Helm, take us underneath that column," The captain said. The ship barely avoids scraping its paint as the unnatural shape suddenly flares to twice its size. "Science, Bridge," the captain radioed. "This is Science." "Any theories on what these things are?" Science hesitated. "Our guess is that we're seeing successive 3D slices of 4D shapes. No way to tell if they're alive, or echoes of conventional matter in this wormhole." "Are they dangerous?" "Well, I wouldn't run into them. Sir." "...thanks." "I'm getting faint radar echoes. There might be other ships in here with us," Sensors reported. Space suddenly flopped back into pre-established shapes. They were out. "Star tracking is back online. We're... 1.2 million lightyears from our previous position. In... intergalactic space, sir," Astrogation said. The port and starboard viewscreens were showing two different "nearby" galaxies. Ahead, the view didn't seem remarkable, until scale reasserted itself. Each star - each little white dot - was a galaxy, so far away that its collected radiative output looked, to the captain, like a star. He had to force himself to breathe again. "New contacts! Ships off the starboard bow!" Sensors said.

-The Romanova arrives. It's taken some damage - notably the tesla coils are offline. They deploy cosmonauts in a defensive formation before broadcasting (via basic radio) that they are armed, but willing to be peaceful if everyone else is. -The Forward Spear arrives shortly after (if not simultaneously), far from the Romanova. It has taken damage to the engines and reactor, with some crew casualties. They decide to come about and hold position. -Next up is the Helios, which arrived via Stargate malfunction, materializing out of thin air. It took some pretty bad damage - no shields, venting atmosphere, questionable-at-best weapons, and no hyperdrive. They send out an all-frequencies comm burst indicating who they are and that they do not want hostilities. -Next comes the Oblivion, which scraped against some things in the wormhole, opening up engineering. They aim their main sensor array at the Romanova and broadcast their identity and peaceful intent over UHF radio. -Then the Paramont arrives, having gotten thrown from their RIFT tunnel. It has sustained damage - two particle cannons are offline, some drones are inactive, shields are at 77%, the RIFT drive is down, and a sector isn't responding. They power up weapons, and broadcast an all-channels hail identifying themselves and asking everyone else to identify themselves. -Then the Pale Quiver arrives. Their Star-Seer is already injured, and the Battlemaster expresses discontent with the current Captain. They decide to ready their soldiers while opening up a channel and broadcasting their identity and vowing to remain peaceful unless otherwise provoked. -Next comes the Intrepid via wormhole. It sustained very little damage, and unfurls itself from compact orb into a large ring. Via every method of communications available, they offer emergency repair services and goodwill. -Next up is the Spirit of Wind. They arrive via wormhole, escaping a heatdeathed [sub]{can we please make heatdeathed a word now?}[/sub] universe. After rebooting, they realize that they need to learn to speak these languages. Their ship is dead in the water and registers no organic lifesigns. -Then comes the Wayward Step, which arrived via hyperdrive misuse. The crew is running around, trying to figure out how to work their ship, which is, in turn, trying to teach them. This means that weapons are currently offline for about 10 minutes. They maintain distance from everyone, probably hoping to finish the download before things start happening. -Finally, the Vorascent arrives, expecting to land in a battle situation in a colonial system. The psionics are disturbed by the lack of other psionics. They broadcast, via radio, their identity and peaceful intent.

\\Posts # 11-20: ================ -The Romanova sends a message to the Paramount, stating that the Paramount's government doesn't exist but the Romanova will overlook that. The Romanova also messages the Helios so that they can send an envoy over to figure out how the United States could've survived GWIII. Finally, the Romanova proposes a meeting of all ship captains on another ship. -The Paramount responds with annoyed words at the Romanova. Then they broadcast less-annoyed words at the Romanova, in Russian. Finally, the Paramount offers to host the Conference to Figure Out What The Heck Happened. -The Oblivion aims sensors at the Spirit of Wind and agrees to meet at the Paramount, as well as send shuttles to other ships to pick up diplomatic delegations. -The Intrepid fisxes one of their broken repair arms and sends over a delegation to the Paramount. -Onboard the Paramount, Doctor Travesty interacts with LARS, a telepathic android. -The Helios assesses damage: hyperdrive can be repaired, but power conduits are a problem. The asgaurd weaponry are offline, the missile control circuitry has problems, and life support and the generators are terrifyingly broken. The crew believes that the Spirit of Wind could be a replicator ship, one of the crew's enemies. The Helios accepts the Romanova's proposed meeting. ...both of them, provided the Paramount's shields are lowered. They think there's some alternate-reality craziness happening here, and have a way out... if only they had a stargate. -The Vorascant decides to send their Captain to the meeting. -On board the Paramount, the AI has managed to figure out what the other ships look like and can do. [this is great reading if you don't like trawling the character sheets, by the way]. They then launch some escorts for the incoming diplomatic transports, as well as some marines for the hangars. -On the Pale Quiver, their navigator is still unconscious thanks to psychic stresses from the wormhole. The captain is pleased that the other ships aren't acting like the jerk outsiders from their home universe. They agree to the meeting, bringing some fancy tea, provided that someone can give them a shuttle. Finally, they decide to pull the Quiver alongside the Spirit for a boarding scout mission once the Captain has been provided with a shuttle. - Aboard the Paramount sends a dropship to the Pale Quiver. Then the Captain goes to the hangar bay and meets with the marine commander. There's some cool detail, here.

. . Our fish are literally outside their galaxies, but they're also meeting with alien ways of thinking and doing things. The fun comes from seeing what happens when, say, a technological cult of militant cynics meets a cooperative bunch of peaceful explorers. Or the image of an engineer scratching his head on seeing a slightly different solution to FTL travel that shouldn't be possible. Or a pilot, gleefully flying a (to her) extremely graceful alien fighter. Or two communications officers exchanging love letters via sub-ether radio as their captains slowly move toward open hostilities. Ideally, this is all a vehicle for some fun exploration, alien diplomacy, perhaps some conflict, technology exchange, and banding together in difficult circumstances. I plan for there being an initial encounter/get-to-know-everyone/(form alliances?) period, and then the wormhole will open up, dropping something interesting into the mix - a planet, a station, a spacetime anomaly, a space whale, some hostile ships, a weapon, some fuel, or plans for an intergalactic warp drive that may or may not work, for example. ||Ship Name: N1-B Romanova ||Universe Background: The Romanova is from the Red Alert 2 universe. In it, Einstein went back in time to kill Hitler and stop World War II. Iteration two of WWII (now known as the "Great War II") has, instead, Stalin rising up in Hitler's abscence and invading western Europe. The Allies eventually win GWII, and install a puppet president in Russia. Eventually Russia gets pissed off enough to seek revenge, and they do so in the 70's by invading the United States (the global leader at that point), kicking off GWIII. The U.S.S.R. loses GWIII, too, however, a traitor within their midst takes advantage of the global chaos to take control of the world via mechanically-assisted psychic powers. The allies planned to use their time machine to go back and prevent this from happening; however, the remnant soviet forces managed to hijack the time machine at the last second. In this latest and final iteration, the Soviets not only managed to prevent Yuri from taking over the world, but also turned GWIII around, crushing the Allies completely. In short, the Soviets have obtained a glorious victory, ensuring humanity's path to the stars was entirely free of any capitalist chains. In the fifteen years since, the Soviets have built the N1-B Romanova, taking advantage of captured enemy technology to create the world's first interstellar ship. She's an [s]unreliable[/s]perfectly safe anachronism stew; nearly zero readouts are digital, the radar scopes are green, and the energy guns are powered by tesla technology. It has been [s]hastily[/s]flawlessly retrofitted with [s]enemy[/s]visionary Soviet designs and technologies created in GWIII. The vessel is armed with modified Tesla technology that spew a stream of ionized plasma at a target before following up with several thousand volts of electricity. While their range isn't particularly great, the combined EMP and thermal effects are significant. Furthermore, it has several space-modified machine guns and six missile silos, including twelve nuclear warheads. She's propelled by 30 fission fragment rockets, which literally propel themselves by spewing out hot radioactive materials that recently underwent fission. The ship travels in many rapid, short, instantaneous jumps.[*]Cosmonauts: rather than go for expensive single-man fighters, the U.S.S.R. has opted for teams of cosmonauts with maneuvering packs, a single-use missile, and a gun. Such teams are known as flaks, after the aerial flak clouds from previous wars. Flaks of cosmonauts have been found to be nearly as effective and much more expendable than a fighter escort, and these findings are certainly not a reflection on the quality of the [s]hastily-assembled[/s]well-thought-out MiG Cosmos starfighter.
||History of the Ship: The Romanova was on her shakedown cruise; a three-year mission to Alpha Centauri and back, stopping at any points of interest the Commander deemed worthy of receiving the enlightened knowledge of the glorious Soviet system. Additionally, of course, it gave the Romanova some time to work out the kinks and oddities in its design far away from prying eyes. Nobody was really sure if the damn ship wouldn't just shake itself apart at some point, or if its diaspora of competing technologies could actually function together. Born out of war and forged by paranoia, the U.S.S.R. ensured its first interstellar ship would be well-capable of defending itself. The great minds of the citizens at the central planning bureau also saw fit to include several crates of propaganda reels, propaganda leaflets, propaganda posters, and propaganda sound bites.
