Something interesting about myself: Oh I'm just a guy who's got quite the appreciation for sci-fi settings, is into gaming, and is currently attempting to get through college. To be frank, I really don't have much to say about myself. Ship Name:V.V. Pale Quiver Universe Background: Valtorians, humans that hail from a sector of space known as "Rantora", are perhaps one of the smaller factions that dot the war torn region. While the territories around them have constantly shifted powers between the warring empires, the Valtorians were safe within their system of Valinos', unmolested by the outside conflict. In Valtorian society, one's status is everything, and whether it was displayed through wealth, talent, or dress, everyone knew exactly who they were dealing with. Valtorians had quite an interest in simple, yet refined life styles, which can be seen in their architecture, culture, clothing, and fighting styles. However as time passed, divergence movements began to take form. Valtoria's borders had been closed to the outside world, and entry to the planet was forbidden to outsiders. This did not stop the on-going trade in the western settlements that would later become known as the Western Republic unfortunately. As tensions increased, members of the Eastern Traditionalist Movement (Later becoming the Eastern Nations) began to carry out aggressive acts of terrorism in the west. Civil war broke out between the two parties, a war that lasted only four years. Each side employed riflemen, armed with modified bolt action rifles, and skilled swordsman which gracefully dealt with their foes in close quarters. Valtoria came under siege by an outside force during the conflict, which prompted millions of Valtorians to attempt to flee from their homeworld, rather than surrender to a foreign force. Thousands were caught by the blockade, or shot down during their attempted escape, and now the remnant survivors of Valtoria are scattered across the sector. For many, they follow the guidance of the Arche-Council, what can be considered a unified central government for the Valtorian people. Each pocket of Valtorian refugees have adapted their tactics to suit their new environments and their situations. Some commit to more acts of raiding trade fleets for supplies, while others may openly trade with strangers. Despite their differences, they are all unified by a common goal. A chance to reclaim their home. Crew Complement:Valtorians are short in numbers, nor has their specialties ever involved space-faring vessels. This small frigate is crewed by a simple crew of seventy-four people. (32 Riflemen, 9 swordsman, 6 scientist/doctors, 15 engineers, 12 gunners.) Ship Description: The Pale Quiver is a 220 meter long frigate, which specializes pursuing targets, and agility. In the right hands, this frigate is capable of narrowly dodging incoming fire with key maneuvers. The ship itself is not of Valtorian design, it was instead captured by a Valtorian boarding party, and retro-fitted with energy weaponry(7 UV lasers turrets in total, 1 belly mounted particle lance) to aid in it's mission of extended recon. It also comes equipped with a strong energy shield, which protects the vessel quite nicely from energy weaponry, but kinetics can easily overwhelm the shield capacitors. Without the shields, the frigate at a massive risk, due to the light armor that surrounds the hull. Extra armaments include two torpedo launchers with a stock of twelve torpedoes in total. As for the ship interior, it's rather uninteresting when compared to the usual standard for a Valtorian ship. The crew quarters are crowded, the mess hall small. The crew however have managed to convert a portion of the ship's midsections for recreation, and a corner in the cargo-bay for training exercising. Unique Capabilities:Speed and maneuverability are two words that can be used to describe this frigate's finer talents. Most of the ship's primary features are automated by the ship's primary computer, but all systems still have someone monitoring them and interacting with them if necessary. The ship was built around handling lengthy assignments, and therefore the primary thrusters have been modified to consume less fuel. An ECM system has also been installed to help with evading lock-ons and tracking methods. History of the Ship:Ever since the Pale Quiver was captured by Valtorian forces, it's only known it's current crew for about three years. The Frigate has been assigned to numerous patrols around their settlement's portion of space, and recon missions into uncharted space for scavenging runs. Throughout it's on going three year deployment, it's been rather uneventful for the most part, save for a few assignments where they were defending their portion of space with several other vessels. The odds weren't in their favor, but their sense of duty outweighs their concern for personal safety. The crew spent most of their time either chasing off non-aligned vessels, or sending salvaging teams aboard derelict vessels and ship wrecks for supplies. That's what their last assignment was, just another salvaging run in uncharted space. That was the last time the Pale Quiver was on long range sensors. Some Important People: Captain Taris Val' Markurio:Taris wasn't actually the original captain for the crew. The original captain Jeckins was slain in battle during a rather brutal boarding assault, which Taris rallied the remaining forces in the bridge to his side, and made a counter attack against the invading force. The man himself was quite a renown swordmaster, skilled with both a blade and his trusty sidearm. Ever since his previous Captain's death, he's been reluctant to charge headlong into conflict, or battle. He's always been extremely cautious when approaching the unknown, and that's kept him alive so far, so he see's no reason to change his tactics. Battlemaster Gregor Val' Hendrick:In Valtorian Military society, you either become a master of rifles, or a master of swords. Those who become both are known simply as Battlemasters. Gregor is a veteran of the Valtorian civil war, and going into his early 40s. His face bears scars of past conflicts. Such scars would generally diminish the pride of a Valtorian, but Gregor wears them with pride. After all, at the end of the day, he could say that he was the one who was still standing. Generally the Battlemaster commands the soldiers on-board, and acts as a bodyguard for the Captain when the situation demands it. His duty to the Valtorian cause outweighs everything else, including the captain of the ship.. if the captain proves to be disloyal to the cause. Star-Seer Asha Valencia: Since birth, it was clear that Asha was gifted. After extensive testing, it was concluded that Asha possessed a moderate psionic capability. Despite her inherent blindness, she's always been quite sensitive to her surroundings, to how those around her feel, and of her position within space. For these reasons, it was decided by a member of the Arche-Council that Asha should be assigned to the navy as a member of the Star-Seer branch. Star-Seers are psionic navigators which are currently an experimental branch of the the Valtorian Navy that's undergoing testing. She was assigned to the Pale Quiver, due to the nature of it's deep space field missions, and it's tendency to travel across long distances of space. Aboard the Pale Quiver, Asha took her time warming up to the crew, and eventually began to act as a councilor of sorts for the assorted members of the crew. She's very reserved however, and prefers to keep to herself when she can. Duster Corvin Belos: A civilian grade engineer, and one that was for hire too. Corvin has a talent for turning scrap metal into a thing of beauty, and then melting it all down again and actually doing something useful with it. He keeps the other civilian grade engineers busy by assessing the ship's current status, then handing out the tasks for them. If the ship's making strange noises, he's usually the first to hear it. Corvin was a scrapper found on one of the many Valtorian refugee settlements who like many others was looking for a job. He was approached by the previous captain of the Pale Quiver, who was looking for someone with the talents to scrap shipwrecks for them. Corvin was hesitant at first, but at the mention of pay, his hesitation quickly faded. Helmsman Zarwen Jenis: A veteran fighter pilot from the civil war, Jenis decided to move onto the newly created Valtorian Navy after the fall of Valtoria in order to continue to fight for his people. The thrill and adventure of travelling stuck with the young pilot as he watched the stars go by his window, and he would later request to be assigned to a starship. He found his way to the Pale Quiver, where his skills as a fighter pilot were put to the test. Although it took some adjustment, practice, and time, the frigate feels just as comfortable to him as any old fighter-craft did. He's also been in the pursuit of excitement, and life as a navy-man has been anything but dull for him so far.
