[@Kafka Komedy] So, what if I just reduce the powers, still no? Just tell me what powers to remove and I shall obey. If it is about the Chosen One thing , it could easily be revealed that he is being manipulated by a certain individual with fake visions. The power that he magically gains, he already had but with magical hypnosis or whatnot he thinks he was an explorer before and after learning of his ancestry through "ancient magic induced memories of past lives" he suddenly gained this power. And the pyramid that he explored was nothing more than a cabin in the woods and all he saw were illusions. Power nature is easily changeable if you really dislike it.

Edit: Also the dark golden hue is a side effect of him being manipulated, mentally influenced. Just so it fits in with the being-manipulated part.

Edit 2: And the awakening soul converting part could, instead be the corruption of weak willed individuals to join the Manipulator.
