We don't even know what Pokémon that you're pursuing actually is, so the investment could be wasted if it turns out that it didn't actually cross dimensions. … Though granted, that backstory doesn't give a whole lot of options, there's only so many Pokémon with the power to open dark portals big enough to swallow islands! XD
