Home life was stable, school life unassuming, hobbies normal. He was one of the quieter ones for sure, but that was it. He had one friend in a certain place, and another friend somewhere else, mostly separate. There was one friend in particular that could be considered the closest. They were a little popular, but not too much. That friend had been interested in Iyato's straightforward nature. When they talked, Iyato told things like they were and not much else, but that friend seemed to enjoy it greatly. They were seen as somewhat close but Iyato didn't really seem to be as close to his friend as they were to him. The friends of his friend also enjoyed his company from time to time, but he didn't really acquaint himself with them either. They didn't particularly care with how much his friend liked him and they simply left each other alone. Then one day, his friend committed suicide. For reasons unknown, the friend had jumped off of the roof during school hours and fell to his death. That friend had been happy for a long time, everyone said. No one could think of a reason why he would just commit suicide like that. He hadn't said anything beforehand or left a note explaining why. The only clue they had was that the friend had come to the roof with Iyato and no one else. When they asked him about why his friend had only called him up to the roof, he couldn't answer them. As to whether the friend had said anything to him however, he answered with: "Not Really." And that was how it all began. It started with some light harassment from various people. About once or twice a week, there would be one or two people who asked him again, what his friend had said. It was probably more that he seemed to be taking the death of his closest friend suspiciously well compared to most people than the answer he gave to them when they asked, but they were convinced he had something to hide. Eventually, a rumour spread that he was the one responsible for the friend's suicide and the harassment increased. It evolved from just general pestering to things like written threats, tearing up his notebooks, vandalizing his desk etc. Iyato's practical nature came in good use. He left his important notebooks at home and studied by filling in the gaps where the scraps of the day's notebook were, made sure the classroom was always stocked with cleaning supplies for cleaning desks and that kind of thing. They tried to use permanent marker so it'd be harder to clean, but he just swapped his desk with a spare. After four or five repetitions, the teachers decided to find the source of the problem and punish the students trying to harass Iyato. It only served to increase the animosity against Iyato however, because in their eyes he was evil. They felt their actions perfectly justified despite there not being any concrete evidence for their suspicions. It was when he was setting aside non-burnable trash from the mess his shoe-locker had become that day before throwing a lit match inside and closing it, that he realized he was enjoying this. It was amusing. It was fun to deny their efforts after they tried so hard to hurt him. They couldn't do anything to him, and they got punished for it instead. Sometimes he made it difficult for the teachers to find out who exactly did what, by doing things like burning all the notes in his shoe-locker, and this leverage gave him a level of power akin to blackmail over most of the class. He could track the notes to their sources without fail, and he knew that for many of them their parents would not approve of the contents of those notes. He enjoyed the power, the influence his presence had, and the fear that he saw in the eyes of those around him. That wouldn't last forever though, and eventually it was noticed how much he was exasperating the situation and he was asked politely by the principal to leave the school. Thus ended his reign of terror. He transferred to Hideki Highschool and has been quiet ever since. Personality: If you couldn't figure it out from his history, Iyato is quite sadistic. On the surface level he is, practical and straightforward, quiet and steady, the type that doesn't lie to anyone because they never have to. But deep down, he greatly enjoys seeing other people suffer, especially if it's because of him. It's something akin to a fascination with how people react to him but he derives great joy from being evil to people, but it doesn't have to go far. He'd probably derive an equal amount of joy from someone reacting to his evil prank as someone reacting to him after he killed someone. He hasn't had many opportunities to be sadistic so he doesn't really know. Quirks: Sadistic, secretly(?) Doesn't speak that often Tracks people down as a hobby Likes: Fire Other people's suffering Tragic backstories Light novels with suffering and tragic backstories (no fire) Dislikes: Capsicum Salmon Broccoli Relationships: Almost none to speak of. He has passing interest in anyone with a tragic backstory but there aren't many he knows. He is most interested in Yuriya Yozora and thinks it would be amazing if she actually was a Tengu. With the new student, he enjoys her company and the stories she tells, and he also likes her general attitude. As for everyone else, he generally keeps a distance between him and bright ones, and he always wishes that people had more secrets. Stories are always boring for him unless they have a lot of layers.
