I was pretty young when this track came out, but it is definitely the first song that I actually have vivid memories of loving. Either it was popular on the radio for a number of years, or it was just a staple cassette tape that we had in the car. Yes, I said [i]tape[/i], because this shit was lighting it up before CDs became the main form of portable tunes. Looking up the lyrics now, I realize that young 5-year-old Kayla DEFINITELY had no idea what she was singing along to, but I sure as shit sang along, 'shake it shake it baby'ing in my living room. Although I am from New York, my Aunt and Uncle (who partially raised me) met in California and lived there for a short time so, between that knowledge and this song, I developed a bit of an obsession with the sunshine state as a child. When I was twelve, they took me to Cali on a vacation to see my Uncle's family, and it was like a dream come true. Honestly, I kind of [i]still[/i] love the idea of California and hope to maybe live there someday, if life allows.
