Cowardly rice farmer who may or may not be a revolutionary leader and skilled warrior (which is why he was imprisoned before the escape). 

There's a few ways I could play it; either he's a straight up lie master, or his farmer persona is just a second personality created after a near-death experience, or maybe he really is just a rice farmer.
