I want to kick this off with an idea I have been playing around with for a good few weeks, primarily focusing on a very dark and very mysterious sci-fi setting and world taking place in the faaaaaarfuture. My taste has never really included big, eccentric space opera, nor has it really accommodated role-play where the characters only occasionally get fucked up and killed. I want to build a role-play in which a series of extremely powerful characters find themselves in a situation so alien and so dangerous that it is beyond even them to easily survive and explain. And so I bring you ECHOES, the fruits of my very specific criteria for an unusual and rather unique sci-fi story. Here's what you need to know: - The Age of Dominion is a commonly used phrase for the period of time directly after the extinction of Earth. This clocks in at around the year 3500, give or take a few hundred. It is in the Age of Dominion that your standard galactic wars and political intrigue happen. Nations rise and fall, empires conquer and falter, races grow and are extinguished. This goes on for thousands of years, the balance of power is constantly shifting and never really coming to rest upon one empire or another. OOC I can tell you that the Age of Dominion lasts for about 25,000 years. - You assume the role of the most powerful individual, be it venerated champion or infamous killer that a particular nation in the Age of Dominion had ever produced. - The catch? Your character has already lived out their life and passed. The Age of Dominion is long behind us. But for some reason unbeknownst to them, they have returned to life, seemingly illogically, inexplicably, and impossibly, a million years after the Age of Dominion has ended. -You all awaken on the same, mysterious planet, with no idea how or why you have come to be there, especially since it has been so long since your death. Your home empires have long since been turned to ash. You think yourself alone. ...But this notion is fundamentally incorrect.
I need to get a lot of the details down on paper, but as far as I am aware it should be fairly unique in it's genre. If we get enough interest i'll fire up an OOC and see what we can do with the setting.
