Her mother however was not, rather she was a simple servant girl that just happened to be pretty enough to catch Lord Cletus Dondarrion. Not many women could resist such a man especially in his prime as he was, and within a few months Kadie found herself growing larger with Lord Cletus Child. Cletus did not even dispute the fact, he was not married, and had no children, so he of course embraced the idea of having one, even if it was to be a bastard. When she was born though, to the horror of all those involved her mother suffered some complication and bled to death, leaving Selyse alone except for her Father who could never truly claim her. He could name her though, and love her. He named her Selyse, as it was the final words Kadie spoke before she died, Despite being a Bastard Selyse's childhood was filled with joy and laughter, Cletus loved her like he would any child that he might have had in Marriage. He taught her to sing as well, and from watching him play the Harp she herself picked up a lyre, and began to teach herself. Her playing was not the best, but it was passable, and many enjoyed listening to her. Despite this she had a streak in her to want more than just being just another girl around Blackhaven. She frequently was chastised for putting on boys clothes she stole from one of the stablehands, and trying to practice with weapons like the other boys around Blackhaven would do. She saw her cousin, Shireen Storm, another bastard like her practice sparring with her twin Davos. They were trained to fight by their father Raymont, and Selyse begged her father to teach her like Raymont taught his bastards. Cletus continued to refuse, saying that she would be his little lady, and ladies like her shouldn't fight. Selyse would not take no for an answer though, Instead she went to her cousins, and asked them to teach her in secret, and so as they learned so did she, to an extent. She learned in the darkness of a cellar under an old abandoned home. For years this went on, even as she was taught to be a lady she taught herself to be a warrior. When her sister was born, she saw it as a blessing, she knew they would never be equals, but it was another member to their family, though it was a loss as well. While she had been learning to fight and taught to be a lady Cletus had been wed to lady Cersei Estermont. It was a happy marriage between cheerful people, and Cersei was as kind to Selyse as Cletus was, her child or not. It was not long before she was pregnant with Cletus's second child. But, this childs birth was not all happy. Much like Selyse's mother, there was a complication and as Selyse's sister entered the world, Lady Cersei was taken from it. For one of the few times in her life, Selyse saw her father cry. He held his newest child in his arms once the room was cleared, and fell to his knees in tears. He named her Mariah as Cersei had wished, and was sullen and quiet for several days... before he simply dissapeared. Only Raymont was left a goodbye letter. He came to his niece Selyse's room, and told her that Cletus would be gone for a very long time and that he would raise her now. For several months Selyse was completely destroyed by her father having left, and would not leave her chambers. Her cousins however managed to pull her out of her rut, and continued to teach her swordplay in that same cellar. Years, went by, and Selyse never felt a lack of love from the family around her, but there was always a hole in her heart for her missing father. It was one day when Selyse was nineteen, she was practicing her sword play alone under the house, using a sword she had secretly had made by the local blacksmith. She was performing her stances excellently, which was how Lord Raymont found her. He had sworn to make her a lady, as Cletus had wished... but clearly she had other plans. He saw she was too far into her training to turn back now. So, he said if she was going to fight she'd be taught and equipped properly. So Raymont had armor fashioned for Selyse, a new sword, and a even a long dagger. She received proper training as well mixing it with her former training, though Raymont had to find a left handed swordsman to teach her. A rather untoward sort, but he was excellent in combat, and taught her to use sword and dagger in unison. Now many years later, her training at an end, She has become a fighter for her uncle, much to the disdain of some others who considered the fact that Raymont had two girls fighting for him, very untoward. She serves faithfully, though she still wonders. Where is her father.[/hider]
