[/quote] I was thinking more along the lines of an offshore group of survivors who eventually formed their own floating haven made out of boats which they could salvage and lay at anchor beside it. Assuming it was feasible for the boat to avoid sinking due to decay, it could still float even if the engines were out of order and the plumbing completely screwed.
