[b]Background:[/b]  Mel grew up in farm country, Pennsylvania, but always had an aptitude for math and a general curiosity about how things worked.  While her brother and sister were at social events, introverted Melanie would spend her free time solving logic puzzles or tinkering with the family computer.  However, like many in rural PA, she learned to deer hunt from her father and quite enjoyed the yearly ritual of stalking the woods along side her father and older brother in the first week of December.  She even had her picture featured in the local paper one year alongside her trophy buck.  In college, she met a man named Jeffrey, her opposite in many ways, but is engaged to be married to him next year.
