When Jasmine tried to whisper in her ear, Audrey answered back, at normal volume, "I cannot hear you."  She had, however, heard how Jasmine had reacted to Alexandra, and thought Alex was quite right to storm off like that.  Aud almost told Jasmine the same, but with the roar of her bike to go with it (see how you like [i]that[/i], miss "I can hear heartbeats"). 

[i]But[/i] Audrey felt too entrenched in the mystery of this town's lights and the sudden apparent supernatural powers to turn away someone who was claiming to be affected by it.  And that line of thinking brought Audrey to Bae, with her claim that she could read minds.  Strangely enough, Audrey didn't have any trouble hearing anything that Bae said, ringing ears or no, and that gave her a thought.
