How about we start off with an old favorite, made new. Here’s ‘The Almost’ and their rendition of Free Fallin.” The young woman’s voice was strong and happy over the air, welcoming to each and every individual in Red Lake. The song began shortly after with a fluid transition and the practiced movements of Echo’s fingers across the soundboard in front of her. Echo leaned back in her rather comfy leather desk chair, strumming the invisible guitar in her lap, completely captured by the song blaring through her headphones. She loved her job; Hell she would’ve done it even without the payment that she got from the small adverts that she was obligated to throw in here and there. It helped pay for upkeep. As the song began to close, she flicked a switch on the soundboard and brought her actual guitar onto her lap. She played along with the crisp riffs, overlaying her own sound with that of the song playing. Her fingers glided effortlessly across the frets, ringing out crisp and clear notes to harmonize with the song, before it began to fade out. “Its a beautiful 77 degrees this morning in Red Lake, and the sun, she’s a shinin’ bright. Traffic is as always in this town. Fortunately for you inhabitants, that means traffic is awesome. Now, onto the good stuff.” She wheeled over to her laptop while a quick transition riff played over the air, before bringing her mic back up. “Now if you want all the big news, go watch it on Fox or somethin, this here is the local news. First up, Red Lake High has recently had some graffiti issues and police are open to anyone who has any information. Go get em guys.” “Next, some news you may be a little more interested in. I’m looking for a co-host of sorts, perhaps a fellow musician even. Spice up the show a bit. You guys know where to send your feedback and info. Hell, stop by the station if you’re really interested.” “Finally, the annual RV trip is coming up and I will be out of town for a few days. Ajay will be running round the clock music for you, but don’t be expecting the daily show until I come back. That being said, I will still be looking over all of you comments and feedback on both the Twitter page: @Riot889, and through the phones. Don’t hesitate to call the station.” Echo typed up a quick synopsis of the news and posted it on the Twitter page before sliding across the studio in the chair back over to the soundboard. She picked up her guitar once again and began to play the opening riffs of the next song, teasing the listeners. “That’s right, its time for some R H C P! Here’s the Chili’s with Can’t Stop, on your one and only local radio station, Riot 88.9.” Echo slowly faded out her own playing into the song before letting it play on its own. She slid back and let it play through the studio speakers. She leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes, letting the classic riffs fill her mind and take her away from reality. It was going to be a good day.
“Ajay, I’m heading out for the next few days. Don’t burn the place down.” Echo walked out from the station and hopped onto her bike, pedaling gently down the gravel driveway leading into town, where she spotted the usual gang down by the Café. She slowed down as she approached, coming to a halt just a few feet away from the Twins, just as Cody seemed to be leaving. “Hey guys, whatcha up to?”
