Her eyes flicked up to catch a boy—Aiden McKenna—make for the door, only to be deterred when Lehrer shot him a sharp look. What was that? Brynn thought, a frown curling on her face, but she let the thought roll of her mind when she saw the time again. Only five more minutes—not enough for Lehrer to require any more writing, only discussion. She had a student council meeting to catch after school, and she was itching to get the day over with. Speaking of, Brynn thought, shouldn’t Elroy Bain be coming around to give reminders about the dance? Right on cue, a knock sounded on the door. Lehrer opened it to reveal a Elroy, arm in cast and all. Brynn nodded along internally as he spoke, checking off the details in her head. He’d insisted that he still wanted to participate on the council despite the hectic summer, even though no one could have faulted him if he’d quit. Brynn had pegged it as dedication, though hesitantly. Brynn perked up at the mention of the contest. That idea could be credited to Corben, and it’d been chosen over a contest of the ‘craziest dance moves’ and the ‘craziest picture.’ The last one had been outvoted in a hurry though—too many terrible things could have happened. Although she didn’t have plans to win, Brynn knew she did need to come up with something outrageous. As a member of the council, participating in such events was a must. Would dressing up as a fruit be properly outrageous? Brynn thought, absentmindedly slinging on her backpack as the bell rang. She pulled a face when she remembered the specific fruits people seemed to find most outrageous. Peach as a last resort then. I'd rather be caught dead than as a banana.
