Midas stared out of the smoke tinted windows as the black luxury SUV passed the people and buildings which made Sherman Square stand out amongst the best urban centers in the Northeast. However, it wasn’t the tall skyscrapers or the large videotron, or even the large number of colorful people that lived in or visited the area each day that caused his insides to turn with excitement. It was the status report on one of the various “projects” that Midas Industries had been working on or have had been observing from afar that he had been updated on by one of his advisors, Livingston. This particular project was not one that Midas Industries was involved with directly, or technically at all. The project was being conducted by one of Midas Industries’ larger rivals, Gene Co, and was a complete secret. At least it was a secret to most. The truth was, that while Richard Midas himself kept a relatively low profile for someone in the position that he was in, there was little that went on in Lost Haven that he didn’t know about. So when he learned that Gene Co, the Shroud Syndicate, and several of the city’s newer costumed heroes were involved in a battle royal over a single young woman, he took notice. Though he wasn’t sure exactly what it was about this young woman that was so special, the mere fact that so many powerful entities in the city were after her was reason enough to go after her as well. While he had heard rumors about this young woman, and if they were indeed true, she would be a fascinating specimen to study…he needed to find out first hand if what they were saying about her was true. “And after the earthquake in Chinatown, a young lady was observed that fit the description of the woman we’re looking for.” Livingston told Midas, his voice radiating with excitement. “The earthquake itself isn’t anything to be concerned with, we have been known to have them in this region from time to time.” Midas said to Livingston, who had been droning on and on about the earthquake for what seemed like hours. “However, with the number of metahumans in the city these days, it isn’t something that we can just discount.” “This may be true, Sir, but the young woman in question was seen in the area immediately following the earthquake.” Livingston protested. “And that does merit some looking in to.” Midas agreed. “Wonderful. I will make arrangements immediately. I will follow up on this personally.” Livingston proudly proclaimed. “No, I think I’ll have Ms Sparks handle this one.” Midas told him. “Sir?” Livingston asked, immediately speaking up again. “But I don’t understand. I-” Midas stopped him. “Livingston, you’re wonderful, really. However, this is a very delicate situation and to be perfectly honest, you can from time to time come off as a bit…creepy. In this instance, Ms Sparks is better suited to make contact.” Midas explained. “But don’t worry, Ms Desdemona will soon be our…guest. And once she is ours, if the rumors of her gifts are true…things will never be the same.”
