[b]Appearance:[/b] Beneath his ever-present armor, a mane of coppery-brown hair frames a face composed of chiseled, angular features made all the more imposing by crystalline blue eyes. He stands roughly 5'11 (180 cm) and weighs a dense 220 lbs. (100 kg).

[b]Personality:[/b] Valen chose to be a Diver for one reason, and that is the freedom it afforded him. Although he returns to cities frequently, he is no longer confined by them, and that desire for independence is at the core of who he is. In no-man's-land there is no safety net of government or family, failure means death and your own merits are what keep you breathing at the end of the day.

Despite that, he is not a callous or solitary individual. He enjoys the company of others, sharing a drink and a story of close-calls in the safety of a tavern, and he's a stalwart companion who puts the safety of the group as a whole above his own.

[b]History:[/b] Valen is the second son of Cyndor Jidar, a man known throughout Hyznia as the patriarch of the esteemed House Jidar, a clan of mages responsible for many powerful arch mages throughout the city-state's history. From his youth he was brought up with the expectation that he would become an accomplished mage in his own right, but while his brother and sister excelled at their studies Valen frequently lagged behind in terms of execution. He had a strong arcane network, and a proven understanding of the concepts involved, but his control was lacking.

Still, his father and mother held out hope for him. Despite his growing lack of confidence in himself, they pressured him to apply himself rigorously to his studies until finally he made a reckless mistake. In an experiment with defensive magic at the age of nineteen, he lost control of his arcane network and the backlash ravaged his face. The cosmetic wounds were easily healed, but the damage to his eyes needed more than the Jidar family was personally capable of, so he was sent to Arcadia to see a machinist reported to be capable of restoring his vision.

When Valen's vision was finally restored, he found himself far from his mother and father's overbearing expectations. The city of Arcadia, a place the likes of which he'd never seen with his nose buried in books back in primitive Hyznia. There he was able to realize the world was far bigger than he'd ever known, and he chose to ditch his escorts and make his own way in the world. Thus began his path as a Diver.

[b]Magical Capabilities:[/b] Valen uses a form of magic known as Gravitation which allows him to manipulate the gravity of objects and entities, or create specific gravity wells which draw or repulse everything around them. Naturally, heavier targets require a far greater deal of arcane energy to manipulate. Where he might pin a hound to the ground, it would be much easier to cause a tiger's pounce to carry it over his head.

[b]Body Modifications:[/b] Arcanite Eyes - Following a magical accident, Valen's eyes were irreparably damaged. A skilled machinist was able to construct false eyes for him, which are capable of detecting movement in near total darkness.
