I view fandoms much in the same way I view labels, in that they are used by weak people who want to stand together as a group or stand out as as someone with a unique mind or taste. Regardless of the franchise, the word fandom always makes me think of an unruly crowd filled with unattractive, obsessive people. I am a fan of many things, but I don't belong to any fandoms. But fandom haters aren't much better. Even when members of a fandom aren't being annoying, they feel they need to be the "voice of truth" and make everyone "open their mind" to all the flaws of said fandom for reasons unknown. I guess they see members of a fandom enjoying themselves, and because they themselves feel miserable, they have to spread misery to make themselves feel better. I really liked Madoka Magica. Like any show I like, I enjoyed the characters enough that I was able to overlook its flaws. you can tell me how the first nine minutes of elfin lied was more graphic than the third episode of MM, or how stupid the ending was, but that's not going to make me hate the show as a whole. Just shut up and let me enjoy my cartoon. Hate never made anyone look smart. In short, I avoid talking about fandoms because both sides lose. You're either an idiot in a fandom or an idiot bashing a fandom. I prefer to just live and let live.
