Writing other stories can help if it doesn't ending up distract you away from the main story completely, which is one of the reasons I've been concerned about role-playing on this site; I don't want to end up giving myself too much to do and not giving my project the time and devotion it deserves. I seems like overcoming this motivation issue needs to take priority.
