Euggh. Buyback.
A lot of times it's just not worth it. Depends on who you're playing, I suppose.

@RaddumHow does Buyback work in DOTA? I follow DOTA2 from time to time, but I still don't know as much compared to League.

Speaking of DOTA, how would you categorize our characters in this RP according to role? Sans strikes me as an ADC or Mid while Goombella would be Support. Similarly, Amethyst can be either Top or Offlane (Jungle in LoL). Fuma could be Mid, Pridemoor as Support, Kled is Top, Mr. L as Mid or Top, Jibanyan as Top or Support for poke, Gutsman as Offlane or Support and Jinx as ADC. Am I missing anyone?

I think the reason Buyback is in DOTA is to teach you to NOT buyback. Because most characters need that money to stay effective, and buy equipment. It can be okay to do during the end of the game where you being there faster could change EVERYTHING, but during the beginning if you buyback you basically threw most of your resources away.

As a full-on support player (Mainly Witch Doctor/Dazzle) Money isn't as important to me, but I still don't like buying back because I can buy things to support the team instead; mainly keep wards everywhere, but during the beginning of the game I use a lot of my money on mana restoring, so I can keep my pal in check. If I bought back into the game I'd not have that ability. My mana would run out, and I couldn't heal or stun anyone, and be worthlessss.

Of course, Sal is a much bigger DOTA player than me; I barely have 60 hours and he has like, over a thousand, I think. So maybe his opinion would be more detailed

Retreating is all fun and games until Sans shoots up a wall of blue bones through your escape route, damaging and slowing you.

@RaddumAs Sup in DOTA, is it normally expected of you to ward or is it a shared responsibility for all team members? Wards are important in League because we have bushes where we can hide ourselves and prep for ganking (or be ganked, if we're talking about the Fnatic death brush).

Yes. If you don't buy wards as support, you're apparently the worst person on the team, regardless of amount of health healed, damage dealt, or kills. (And Witch Doctor is one hell of a murderous support character once he gets his alt. And you can give him a 1sec stun right at the beginning of the game for an, at times, easy first blood in a lane.)

There's plenty of hiding in DOTA, but also a lot of terrain destruction. Most characters can at least buy an item to remove trees to restore health, but some characters can just cut through a small forest's worth and reveal everyone there.

Ganking drives me crazy in DOTA, because some characters are just really good for the job.

@RaddumAt basic level, bush warding is basically second nature for all Sup in League unless you want your ADC to be instantly deleted by the incoming Jungler, or Top and Mid post LV 6. You're also expected to peel and ward for the Mid once Bot lane is set lest the Jungler decides that your mage/assassin Mid would make for a tasty FREEXP. If you're a tank Sup, which was my main Sup style when I still played League (I mained Braum and Leona), you're expected to peel and set up for your ADC with CC or you'll be reported, especially if your ADC decides that he/she wants to play like Underlord or Sven (AKA face first to certain skill shot).

Map is pretty much set in LoL, but you can gank from just about anywhere on the map and we have skill shots that can go from one end of the map to another (ex. Jinx's ult). We can't deny minions or suicide on our own though, but we can suicide with tower and jungle camps if the last hit duration from enemy champion is long gone.

Also, Baron Nashor > Roshan, fite me m8.

U focking said wot about Roshan you shitlord

Aside from the destruction of trees making the map much more visible, everything else is set in stone. The trees grow back, too. So it's not like you can cut down the entire map and leave it that way. A lot of abilities in DOTA are pretty short in range overall, but a few long=range options are there. One of which is Sniper, who I play when someone else plays support. An AoE that basically breaks the enemies legs they move so slow? I'm down. It damages? Cool.

My normal attack range is beyond the view of my screen? Also cool.

In all seriousness, I hate trying to go for Roshan, personally. But when the team goes, I follow. Then when the enemy decides to jump in, I Witch Doctor Ult and make them either retreat or be sent to near death before they can even reach the rest of the team. Pop up the AOE healing and let my team finish the job, before clocking out Roshan and reaping the benefits.

@RaddumIn League, Ashe fits that playstyle. Her ult can span a whole map and stuns on contact on top of the damage itself and she also has long-range sight that can reveal a spot on the other end of the map, which is good for scouting the jungle early game.

In League, going for Baron means being trapped in the Baron pit for easy picking or having said Baron stolen. Going for Baron usually helps when you're ready to siege the towers, but it's a double-edged sword as you can get wiped after taking Baron. What people normally do is ward around the pit, have a tank Top and Sup to guard for flank and steal while your Mid, ADC and Jungler hopefully take it down on time. If you have Bard in your team, you can actually delay Baron by ulting the Baron which CCs it and makes it invulnerable for a couple of seconds, which gives you room to engage the enemy team instead and peel away from Baron.

One of the best plays you can make is steal a Baron, or any major objective for that matter, blind, especially with long-range attack. Nothing beats the feeling of stealing a Baron with a Jinx ult by firing on an enemy champion and have the residual AoE damage kill the objective.

I was a Dota person before League. I'd still be a Dota person, had they not nerfed my main/favorite character into the ground and left them to rot for two years
