Admittedly, yeah, Dragon Ball Z is closer to western superhero than a lot of other anime, which might be why I'm not particularly interested in the combat in that series (I prefer more complex and abstract concept-based magic principles, rather than just a cockfight between two guys arguing over who has the bigger [s]package[/s] explosions).

As for the jenga idea; having it be to the death would make it more interesting, yeah, and steer more away from the slice of life dynamic.
