It was here that Elderian had gotten his humble beginnings as a fisherman’s son. His father Geon was a fisherman for decades. His father would catch the fish and his mother, Neela would sell the fish either in the town market or to purveyors that would cart the fish off to the big city. He has an older brother Inwold who has since inherited the bulk of the business and the ship as well as a younger brother Halon who remains in Oakport carrying out the family business with his eldest brother. Abilities: Electrokinesis Proficiencies: Evasion, Unarmed Strike, Intimidation, Open Lock/Disable Device Personality: Derian follows his whims. He is an individualist first and last. He values his own liberty but does not strive to protect others’ freedom. He avoids authority, resents restrictions, and challenges traditions. Derian does not intentionally disrupt organizations as part of a campaign of anarchy. To do so, he would have to be motivated either by good and a desire to liberate others or evil and a desire to make those different from himself suffer. Derian may be unpredictable, but his behavior is not totally random. He is not as likely to jump off a bridge as to cross it. Derian may not wander the land but he lives by his wits. Despite his choice of existence, he represents true freedom from both society’s restrictions and a do-gooder’s zeal. Background: Elderian was born and raised in the seaside village of Porthcawl. A family of fishermen living amongst a seaside village is nothing out of the ordinary. In fact, there really is not anything out of the ordinary about this family at all. Every day had been the same thing. Wake up early in the morning to take to the open waters, fish for a number of hours depending on what needed to be done or how the fish were biting before returning home. Between the unload, the transports, the cleaning and preparation - that was their day. They typically spent every day doing the same thing except Sundays which was typically their day of rest. Elderian would participate as well at least until his early twenties when he ventured off to Oakport. His expedition to Oakport was elicited by a combination of wanderlust and irritation with small town life. But at that time, little did he understand what he was really getting himself into. His first few nights in Oakport were typical - looking for work during the day, drinking in the evenings and finding a place to sleep during the night. But as employment proved difficult to find even in the big city for a small town fisherman, the money he had saved up had quickly disappeared. But he would not beg nor would he ask for assistance. Instead, he turned to theft. It was in Oakport that Derian began working as a rogue - mugging people, picking their pockets, and breaking into empty homes to find things he could turn for a profit. What he had not counted on was that he was encroaching on someone else’s territory. After a quick beating that nearly killed him Derian was quickly swept in with the other rapscallions working the town as an enforcer for the group. Whether it was on the basis of a loan or protection money if they did not pay up the “Heartbreaker” was surely to visit. Named as such not only for his namesake but because he had a tendency to punch his victims in the chest incapacitating them nearly instantaneously. It was here that he learned the trade. He learned how to bruise knees instead of breaking them because what individual can get the money he needs to pay back the loan if he can’t work? He learned to pick locks as a means to gain admittance to homes and businesses that had chosen to abscond from the regularly scheduled payment plan. Intimidation was his biggest seller whether it was those who did not pay or those who he needed to pay. For nearly two decades he has taken part in this level of shakedown, essentially running the city beside the governor who was just nearly as corrupt as the syndicate leader. Periodically, he would take his leave and return home to visit his family. But he would never stay for long. If he remained for too long his worries of revenge would creep in. As if someone followed him down from Oakport and would take out their frustrations on his family. While he may not have climbed any internal ladder or taken over a portion of the town on his own, his reputation and the respect he has obtained from those in the criminal world of Oakport has been enough to sustain his life aspirations. Derian does not go hungry. He does not go without drink. He does not worry about finding a place to sleep. He doesn’t even worry about the guard waiting to shake him down in some back alley. The only thing that concerns Derian is a dagger in the back and quite frankly, he’d be vicious enough to return the favor before he left this gods forsaken land.
