[@January] Being away from the RP for weeks kinda killed my inspiration for this, but I'm juggling with ideas to give me that push I need.

Its more of a manifestation of their magic and not really a random object. If I used Akasha as an example, maybe her item of power would manifest as a necklace that would allow her to transform. The better she becomes at using it, the more her necklace would change in appearance. Or maybe more jewelry would appear around her body. The main source of magic would still be one's body but it initially manifests as some sort of object.
