She's actually a very passive person. Which pisses off her demon.

Whenever she refuses to do her demon's bidding, it controls her and makes her self-harm to various degrees depending on what he wanted to do in the first place. 

He made her break her own arm once.

Olivia used to be a college student, majoring in investigative law. She immediately dropped out as soon as she figured out that she had been possessed by such a vengeful demon, as she didn't want to hurt anybody she cared about.[/center]
