Roger was a simple guy who could be easily lost, especially when it came to the realm of the female gender. When Katya started to treat him differently, he tried figuring out why. Was it because she blamed him for how badly the simulation went? Did he do something he didn't know about, like eating something she was saving for later? Did she just decide she didn't like him? Well whatever it was, she wasn't saying what she was so peeved about. However, during practice she would drop the behavior. After a couple days of this he made it a point to actively avoid her as much as possible. If she walked in the room he would drop whatever he was doing and leave, or end a conversation early. He just wasn't going to deal with her shit if he could help it. When it came to the newcomers, Roger did what he usually did when confronted with the idea of meeting with new authority figures: stand tight, shut up and don't get into trouble. He didn't try interacting with the giant man with no teeth, or chat with any of the other soldiers there, and when the sergeant finally revealed herself as a little girl, no older than say 6 he did his best to not let his surprise show. Tiny though she may be, she was really cute. But something stopped him from completely going along with that train of thought, and that was the fact that since joining this program he had seen a lot of crazy bio-engineering shit. For all he knew, this child was a 35 year old woman who got de-aged into a little kid by some Lorenzo-esque scientist. Maybe she's also a clone like Sigma. Who knew? Roger's eye caught Serah's salute, which jogged his brain enough to remember that the child was also a sergeant on top of a likely freakish science experiment gone right(?). He mimicked the salute as well, probably looking pretty dumb given the rest of the circumstances, but maybe staving off potential ire from the pintsized officer. Or not. These high ranking officers were impossible to make heads or tails of. Maybe he'd have been better off sticking to staying in the navy. At least everything would make sense.
