Don't, it was bound to happen at some point and honestly he thought she could hold her own. Vellios has also had a shitty day already between being pretty much useless most of the mission to the thing with Tanya to Serena being nearly killed. In his mind, she's his anchor to keeping sane so when it comes to Serena's safety...he's very, very picky on the method. If he had his choice, with her luck, she would actually be at his side at all times. 

Merely give him time and approach the topic gradually with him in a few days ICly. At this point, the wounds are too fresh and many so a sour mood was going to happen.
