Name: Capt. Daeren Hawes, aka Project Hybrid. Gender: Male Age: 31 Appearance: A military man through and through, Daeren has taken the lifestyle to heart. Jet black hair meticulously groomed high and tight, with blue eyes the shade found dancing in the hearts of only the hottest fires. At 6’2”, he doesn’t bulge with extra mass like a professional body builder, rather he’s sculpted himself down to the bare essentials and polished and fine-tuned the remaining into a work of art. Muscles like corded steel stand well defined under his skin, marred and broken up by a lifetime of gathered scars and injuries. The smell of Kevlar and military standard soap clings to him like a second skin, both in and out of uniform. The only deviation from the military ideal, are the lines of the tribal tattoo that dominates most of the right side of his face, framing his eye and extending down to his neck, nearly disguising a scar in the same location. Abilities: Biological feat. Blood to blood contact allows him to integrate part of someone else’s abilities into his own. Not a full copy, rather a single aspect or alteration of that ability. For example: From someone with mind reading abilities, he might pick up resistance to such a skill, or perhaps his reflexes start to border on precognitive, though he can’t truly read minds himself. Repeated encounters allow for stronger expression of the new ability, or development of additional ones. Aka, what doesn’t kill him, makes him a right pain in the ass to deal with after that. Bio:
In ancient times, gods walked with men. Powerful beings with powers beyond that of mortals were worshiped and praised for their prowess. Unions between gods and mortals gave rise to demigods and heroes of old. But those days are long since gone. Daeren comes from a world where he is known as a “chimera”. A bastard child of one such union, and outright feared and hated by the world around him. Most are caught as children, but due to the nature of his “gods given” abilities, he did not discover what he truly was until he’d reached adulthood. He joined the military at 18 and became a member of a Special Forces unit dedicated to tracking down “Unique disturbances” across the world. At 27, he was promoted to Captain of his unit, shortly before being deployed to Brazil where he was tasked to find the culprit responsible for wiping an entire village off the map. What he wasn’t supposed to do, was begin a torrid affair with the woman who’d been responsible, a goddess by the name Zeta. They managed to keep their rendezvous secret for nearly a year, before Zeta vanished without a word. Shortly afterward, Daeren himself was hauled in for genetic testing by a group of MP’s where it was revealed what he really was. Handed over to a specialized company called TETRA, Daeren was given the opportunity to work for the company as an agent purging a major metropolis of other chimeras. Initially, he and eleven others declined and were secluded in individual 4x7 underground cells with no outside human interaction or stimuli. In 8 months, all but himself and a single other participant had committed suicide, before he was given the offer again. He accepted. Dubbed “Hybrid” by the company, he and the other prisoner operated in a three man cell with another operative to hunt down and capture chimeras within the city and deliver them back to the lab for testing/experimentation and eventual termination. His prior experience with the military made him a valuable asset to TETRA and an utter terror for chimeras trying to hide from him. However, unbeknownst to him, Zeta had been handed over to the same company around the time he was placed into isolation. Her own abilities involved a poorly controlled form of mental manipulation she used to prevent him from sinking into the same despair as his cell mates and attempting to kill himself. The frequency of her meddling caused brain damage that all but destroyed any sense of empathy he had for years. It wasn’t until he was tasked with the capture of another chimera who possessed unique healing abilities, that he cared at all for anyone but himself. Luna, a meek, quiet girl who couldn’t have been more Zeta’s opposite was suddenly in his care as part of an orchestrated experiment by the lab’s leading scientist. She was utterly terrified of him, while he despised her complete lack of ability to care for or protect herself. It didn’t take Luna long to discover the damage left by Zeta, and slowly attempted to repair it with the thought that there were still redeeming qualities hidden behind the damage. Slowly, he did begin to change, begrudgingly accepting her presence, before taking a vested interest in her well being. Eventually it led to a stolen moment behind blocked cameras, which was quickly discovered. With the threat of losing her eminent, Hybrid orchestrated their escape back to the relative safety of Luna’s chimera friends. They did not approve of him at all and began to sow the seeds of doubt that their relationship was nothing more than Stockholm syndrome. Hybrid eventually left her in the care of her friends, trying to reconcile his own demons and emotions he hadn’t been forced to deal with in years. Eventually, he attempted to fix his relationship with Luna, only to be met with gentle rejection, before discovering Zeta was alive and being held prisoner within the confines of TETRA. An attack on the lab was successful, though while attempting to free Zeta, his previous “employer” deployed a nerve gas killing both Zeta and himself before Hybrid could get her free. Now, he’s left in the world trying to find a place to fit in, labeled a traitor by his own kind, a monster by the rest of the world, and for the first time in a long time, trying to reconcile the fact the only voice he can hear in his head is his own.
Equipment: A combat knife, a small sidearm pistol, and light, black Kevlar body armor still bearing the TETRA Labs logo. What you were doing before you came: Burying Zeta overlooking the city, nursing his own wounds, and trying to puzzle out what to do with his life.
