EVERETT PRACHTER Towering above them, the android called the Caretaker herded the flock along to the Oracle. Practically bubbling with gratitude, Beth goggled at the Caretaker, but Geno and Gwen maintained an obvious, outspoken skepticism, while Daresso tentatively trusted in the Caretaker, to say the least. Everett collected himself somewhere between the latter three — Beth seemed just so gone. He followed Gwen's lead and remembered to keep his guard up, in event of disaster or betrayal. After all, blind faith never went very far. It obviously did not go well for those still sleeping. Then again, with humanity at the end of its rope, they also had little of a choice, this vessel the only hope left. Perhaps even Everett was in the same state of mind as these slumbering folk before the fall. He stroked the lids of a few cradles as he passed by, searching past the covering to see the faces. "It is my pleasure to serve, as it will always be, dear children..." said the Caretaker motherly pleasure. Of course. Her programming only followed that she be obedient to the hierarchy. Though the Caretaker was vital to the function of the cradles and the vessel itself, Everett could only read that she was subservient to the Council she spoke of. For an android, she was an elegant piece of work, not merely for her doll-like aesthetic. The story the Caretaker told of the mishap, it was compelling to hear. An utter disaster had occurred. For all her programmed orders to be overridden, for such a terrible miscalculation... The conditions on Eden had been all wrong from the beginning, and for their lives to be preserved, it implied a miracle of a maneuver. Geno assaulted the Caretaker with interrogation. Question after question and complaint after complaint. Everett thought for a second that Geno might need to calm down, but the Caretaker, unflinching, answered all of Geno's questions with ease. For what it was worth, Eden was likely at the end of its rope. Everett stepped forward and nudged Geno's side gently. "They didn't have much choice in this fate, and unfortunately, we didn't either. We have to find a way, nonetheless," Everett calmly explained. As he spoke this, the group came upon the light, a blinding sight to sore eyes. He could hardly make out anything in the brightness, though glittering and majestic it was.
