Far in the future, beyond a distant horizon yet unseen, is a galaxy full of possibilities. Billions if not trillions of souls and beings exist in this vast galaxy with races and cultures galore, each with a story to tell. While a sun may be setting for the last time on an aging empire somewhere, elsewhere a peoples may have just liberated themselves from the shackles of their homeworlds and just begun their exploration into the great unknown. But no matter where they may come from, who they are or what they do, there is always one constant; the Stars Above.

Welcome, to the Stars Above, a sci-fi NRP with players taking the reigns of an interstellar faction as they set out to sail amongst the stars. For our purposes, this RP will take place in but a small section of a single galactic arm but fear not for size if you are worried about it, for this arm is several dozens lightyears across and filled with hundreds of thousands of shinning, glimmering stars and millions of planets, moons, astroids and other bodies that drift amongst the endless currents of the eternal void.

There is no grand back story to everything, no fallen empire, no galactic threat rising on the farthest horizon, just you and your peoples, although you're more than welcome to come up with a common history amongst other players if you so wish too. Players will build and lead their faction with reign of personal creative freedoms, within limits and common sense of course. Each faction barring special exceptions will be reviewed over the other members of the RP as a sort of "democracy" to make sure everyone is on an equal understanding and footing so no one suddenly comes out with a massive empire spanning thousands of stars with the ability to spawn black holes at will.

The plot will be progressed by the players and on occasion the GMs, agreeing on events and war outcomes. But one must remember, a loss doesn't mean defeat and an inability to continue playing.

• Standard RPGuild Rules - You should know what these are.

• Do Not Metagame - What you know OOC should be different than what your nations and characters know IC; remember, they don't have access to the NSs so they shouldn't immediately know what others are like and if there's an event or plot brewing IC, they shouldn't have a magical button to get them out of it they've been preparing since talk of the event began OOC.

• Do Not Godmod - Your nation is your own and other people's nations are their own, respect that. Players do not have the right to write the actions of another person's creation unless given explicit consent and allowance by their creator.

• Do Not Powergame - Do not abuse the rules of the system to try and buff up your own faction. Do not try to keep pushing the lines of technology further and further into the future while also having said technology. And please, refrain from making perfect, all powerful but benevolent factions aka Mary Sue factions, those are just boring, immature and otherwise distasteful.

• Refrain From Drama - The only drama there should be should be in IC, any OOC quarrels will either have to stop, be taken to PMs or face GM intervention.

• Word of the GM - The GM is effectively God in the position they are in, their word is final and absolute and anyone participating in the RP will have to submit to what the GMs say. CoGMs have equal and similar power with only the GM themselves allowed to overturn the decision of the coGMs. The GM is allowed to break their own rules at will when they deem fit.

• Write for Fun, not Victory - If you are in this RP to "win" or otherwise come out as the absolute victor, reconsider your actions; everyone here is here to have fun writing about the adventures of space faring empires and factions and their interactions. You should be okay with being on the loosing end of things from time to time as not everyone can be winners and loosing doesn't mean complete defeat.

• Have Fun and Respect Your Fellow RPers! - Arguably one of the most important rules ^^

- = ◇ ◈ ◇ = -

Here is the basic skeleton of the NS for Stars Above, feel free to alter it and use formatting and code to beautify it in your own image. Its recommended that everyone keeps their NSs brief and too the point; no need to go into obsessive amounts of detail. If you do wish to add detailing however, it is recommended that you either write them into a hider once your NS is complete (as to shorten the time needed to fill out an NS) or just plug them in as the RP goes along.

- = ◇ ◈ ◇ = -

Stake your claim in the endless sea of stars here! This is to give people a relative understanding of your position and relation to other people, just remember you probably won't be able to constantly patrol and know whats going on in space due to its vastness and that its really hard to kepe precise borders in the void. The map will be 2D not 3D for simplicities's sake and each hex equaling about one parsecs (which is a measurement of distance, not time as some handsome smugglers in space bars on a desert world may tell you.)

Thank you, ClocktowerEchos, for sprucing up the OP.

ATTENTION: This roleplay is now [OPEN]. Please post your nation-sheet application in the OOC tab. DO NOT POST your sheet in the CHAR tab. DO NOT SUBMIT unfinished sheets - your sheet will be reviewed as-is and judged as-is if it is posted unfinished.

Went back and fixed a bunch of little spelling mistakes. That's what I get for writing it out in notepad first. No objections from me on everyone else's sheets though.

I'm up for this. I'm writing up a protector of life, mad scientist themed species, so if anyone wants their species to have been created by alien bio-engineering, let me know!

They also have a large number of "vassal" nations under their protection, so someone could play as a subject too.

Creators or created? Are you saying that our stories synergise or that we have the same species idea?

Just saying they're similar.

My people are created except their creators were created themselves and so where their creators, going all the way back to a now non-existant race. I'll have my sheet up soon and you can see, I got only one last bit to fill out.

Making rules based on broad generalizations is not the most efficient way to attract potential players, I think. Also, losing*, not loosing.

If you want to make an RP with specific rule for every single encounter/situation that can arise in an NRP, feel free to, until than, generalizations is the easiest way forward. Generalizations generally always stem from some noticeable trend.

Also, playing to win ends up with some less than favorable events of which I everyone here wouldn't mind not having no?

Agreed. The point in this RP isn't to have your nation "win". The whole point is to tell a story and have fun doing it. Generalizations may not attract everyone but it will attract the people who also want to tell a story, not compete in a game.

What is a less than favorable event, Clock? It seems apparent what you mean is "an event that doesn't favor me."

It's an equivocation of asking people to play flag football and then saying: "We're just here to have fun," when one team attempts to win. @Palamon's point also implies that people who wish to emphasize the game in Role Playing Game are incapable of creating story, though it may be unintentional.

EDIT: Before the accusation arises, I'm not here for argument's sake. I just enjoy dialogue regarding this perspective which has long perpetuated itself on RPGuild.

EDIT 2: In fact, the RP seems well done. Salute.

Call me self centered, but I doubt a lot of people enjoy power playing that tends to arise otherwise, at least it seemed to be the notion in the Interest/Planning Check.

I would argue that football is a bad example, you can't compare a sport to text based roleplaying in my eyes. When someone says "have fun" in an RP, I take it as having a good time and planning and talking with other RPs about what will happen IC and other random bits and bobs in the OOC which may not be directly related to the IC. What I do know is that people having online dick measuring contests is not my definition of fun nor is it the consensus of those in the original check, something that the designing of this RP took into great consideration to prevent: E-peen measuring and powergaming. How do I know this? I was in that check and also the one who made the OP.

Thanks for the last bit though ^^

@Palamon My guys would probably be pretty stoked that they're not the only humans in the galaxy. Might be a little disappointed in how stagnant the Ederians have become though, but for sure. Looking forward to them meeting.

Assuming no one objects to anything in your sheets in the near future, your player-nations are accepted. You guys are welcome to begin posting. It appears @REDSHEILD is still working on his sheet, and I haven't heard from @Polybius as to whether or not he will be joining the roleplay.

When you guys are done with your nation sheets, please PM them to me so I can take a look at them before you post them to the CHAR tab for final review.
