Name: Antoni "Scarecrow" Corvi Age: 31 Appearance: Unsurprisingly, the farmhand nicknamed Scarecrow is one of the skinniest at the farm. Scarecrow is about a head shorter than his fellow workers, and has a taut frame that suggests he would blow away in an especially strong wind. Like many of the farmhands, he has only one outfit; black pants and a black vest, a white collarless button-down, and an old leathery brown pair of boots. He is one of the few farmhands who buys neither cigarettes nor alcohol, and has been able to buy himself pleasantries -- namely cologne and neckties -- as well as the straw boater hat he has worn for years. In spite of the years he has spent working the fields, his face retains a handsome sharpness to it, which he owes to his Sicilian heritage. He has a pronounced Roman nose, olive skin, and thick, oily black hair kept out of the way by his straw hat. Personality: Scarecrow is a charismatic man, though his is the kindly likability of an old neighbor moreso than that of a silver tongued salesman. He enjoys doing small favors for other workers out of a mixed sense of camaraderie and Catholic duty, and frequently eases the workload with songs, jokes, and sundry gifts. When there is work to be done in sweltering heat, Scarecrow can be found organizing games of dice in the shade of either barn, and when there is work to be done through feet of snow, Scarecrow procures piping hot coffee seemingly out of thin air. Additionally, Scarecrow is known for his stories -- Many a worker at the Tackett farm come from relatively quiet cities or outright dull rural towns, whereas Scarecrow's tales are set in Italian brothels, travelling circuses, and the parties of mobsters. Scarecrow's performing background also comes to light in the form of his occasional "performances" during work such as balancing acts, magic tricks, juggling, and occasional operatic ballads. Aside from his surface-level friendliness, Scarecrow is something of a calculative person; He is not friendly solely because he enjoys being kind, he is partly friendly because he knows friendliness begets perks. He is a friend to the men in both barns, and can freely pass between the two as a result. He is a friend to the old farmhand who does the farm's accounting and finds a few extra days added to his pay as a result. He is certainly friends with Mrs. Tackett, and does not have to worry about ever losing his job as a result. In short, there are few men as thin and wiry as Scarecrow who can rightfully walk with the same confidence. History: Scarecrow was born to Rosa Corvi in Palermo, Sicily. More specifically, Scarecrow was born to Rosa Corvi in a brothel in Palermo, where he remained for several years after his mother and other working girls surmised he was too cute of a baby to give to an orphanage. Scarecrow, who was still called Antoni in those days, spent his life with a relative degree of privilege for a whoreson, surrounded by kindly doting women, sweet incense, and soft pillows. It was not until he was a teenager that he would leave this life, being sent to live with his cousins in America by his mother who feared that her son's idly spent adolescence and lack of male figures would make him soft. Antoni stayed with his cousins for approximately a month, working on the docks of Sheepshead Bay for long enough to purchase himself a train ticket to Florida. Proving perhaps that he was as soft as his mother feared, Antoni fled his meager career as a longshoreman, leaving for Florida in the middle of the night. As fate would have it, Antoni's then-poor understanding of the English language proved to be the fatal flaw of his escape, as the teenager mistakenly used his earnings to purchase a ticket to Bristol, Iowa rather than Bristol, Florida. Alone and penniless, Antoni wandered the streets in search of work for days, until he found a single opening at a travelling circus that had stopped by the town, which was in need of a ticket vendor. As Scarecrow often repeated, this was the only time "Being a wop helped", as the circus was owned by Carlo Mancini, a full-blooded Italian. Antoni's charismatic nature helped him rise through the ranks of the circus, first as a vendor, then a gaffer and then as a barker, enticing outsiders to part with their money and see the spectacles within the tents. This continued until Antoni was covering performances for clowns that were sick or too drunk, until he was headlining his own sleight of hand performances as Antoni the Magnificent. With the sudden economic collapse, Antoni went on to seek work in a small Pennsylvanian town the circus stopped in, where he has stayed for years.
