For the Sci-Fi deal, an off the top of my head idea is a "Han Solo type" character who either journeys the galaxy or was forced to flee his planet due to an apocalyptic event and stumbles upon a small world or minor asteroid colony that's been suppressed and enslaved by an evil alien empire and he/she find himself flung into the mix of their independence movement or "rebellion".
