From the moment he was born, he was abandoned at a nearby orphanage; his parents unable to tend to a new life like his. The owner of the Orphanage took him in and raised him. But not as a child, but a criminal. From the moment he was able to walk and comprehend speech, he was trained in the arts of thievery. Every time he made a mistake, he was scolded. Beaten. Bruised. Scarred. Thus he was quick to perfect what the owner had taught him, he wanted to survive after all. Anything he managed to steal was taken away from him as ‘contributions’ to the orphanage. He didn’t own anything. Not a single penny. The owner had given him one thing though. A tattoo on his arm. The tattoo trailed and coiled down his left arm in the shape of a thorny vine. It was the owner’s way of saying “I own you and you cannot escape.” A sick joke. By the time he reached his teen years, he had become the topic of the town. Things disappearing left and right. Houses ransacked. Knights losing their purses. All investigations were futile as there was no evidence left at the scene. They never caught Ruarc. Like a mouse stealing food from a farmer; the thief stole without remorse. Yet he owned nothing still. Soon the half elf was tired of it all. He wanted to own his own things. He had enough of these bogus contributions to the orphanage. He barely got enough to eat even though he did all this work… He steeled his resolve as he drew the dirk that he had stolen from one of the patrols. During one fateful night, Ruarc snuck into the owner’s room; slitting his throat before he could so much as wake from his slumber. He escaped the orphanage, sickened by what he had just done. Taking a life isn’t as easy as taking money. [b][color=6ecff6]Adulthood:[/color][/b] By his early 20’s, Ruarc had travelled to other cities and towns, stealing from anyone and anything to create a small fortune for himself. He’d often spend his time at taverns, having drinks with the other patrons and flirting with the waitresses. By now he had loosened up quite significantly, leaving his strict childhood behind him. Unfortunately, he couldn’t get rid of the tattoo, however some people thought it looked pretty cool along with his scars. [b][color=6ecff6]Special Moments:[/color][/b] Once upon a time, Ruarc had fallen in love with a woman while he was in Astaras. He’d often joke about stealing her heart, but it was his that she had stolen instead. She taught him many things; about magic, science and the culture of her city. In return he had taught her a few things of his own, but that’s a story for another time. Perhaps the story will never be told, for his lover was taken by another criminal. A murderer. Needless to say, the perpetrator got what he deserved. But it didn’t solve anything. No amount of riches could fill the void that had opened in his heart.
