@VampireOracle"Epic" trailer-style music doesn't do much for me nowadays. Having listened to quite a bit of it on my own and just about every time I'm at the theatre, it feels a bit overblown and rote. You start to pick up on the formula and it sounds generic after a time.

You da real MVP. Anytime someone uses Adrian von Ziegler, Two Steps from Hell, or Imagine Dragons as the theme song to his character or thread, that's my cue to look elsewhere for interesting shit to happen and interesting people to talk to. It's the quintessential "I will attempt to be a badass and fail by even the most derivative definitions of the word" red flag. Every time.

Admiring the Black Metal love here, too. Though it's a little too far gone on the "noise" spectrum for me. I need Black Metal with more melody, and a certain standard of production quality (which doesn't say much in this genre, but still). 6.5/10

@pugbutter 8/10. It's good, right up my alley musically. I don't really listen to black metal, but the instrumentals are very good and the vocals listenable.

Pretty good. I like orchestral music like this. Was gonna say no because I dislike listening to game music out of a game, but it's great. 4/5

From the description:

Heilung is sounds from the northern european iron age and viking period. We used everything from running water, human bones, reconstructed swords and shields up to ancient frame drums and bronze rings in the songs.
The lyrics contain original texts from rune stones and preserved spear shafts, amulets and other artifacts. Furthermore poems, which either deal with historical events or are translations/ interpretations of the originals.
Every attempt to link the music to modern political or religious points are pointless, since Heilung tries to connect the listener to the time before Christianity and its political offsprings raped and burned itself into the northern european mentality.
Heilung means healing in german and describes the core of the sound. It is supposed to leave the listener eased and relaxed after a sometimes turbulent musical journey.

Heilung - Hakkerskaldyr

Here's something I'd definitely listen to on my own. Relevant to my current interests (European pagan/pre-Christian culture) and gets the blood flowing. I'll be looking for more material by the artist.

Here's something similarly inspired by heathenism and viking-age lore. Not as energetic or primal, but I find it soothing and mystical.

It sets an interesting mood but I'm not a fan of the insturments being used, and I find the vocals somewhat uninspired.

@Garattee It's decent for a game. For music to listen to I find it uninspiring, and somewhat boring, lol. 4/10. If I heard it in a game, I'd give it like 7/10 on account of it not being too distracting to listen to, I guess.

@Buddha, the song as a sort of theme for a character or an ambiance for a high fantasy setting would make it very captivating and earn it a 7... but as a song to listen to in the car, I feel bored and it has a sort of lullaby quality that puts me to sleep, so I'd give it a 4 or 5.

@Spoopy Scary I guess this is pirate metal? I enjoy Adventure themed music and there is some good melodies in this song somewhere but overall I find the vocals a bit too cringe and silly for me to enjoy it as a song. And as a tounge in cheek thing I think I could have been done a little better. 3/10

6/10 Nice beat and it's actually pretty good. I don't normally listen to rap songs so sorry for my lack of judgement, haha :)

Hmm...here's something I love to listen to:

@ineffable 9/10. I love the Arctic Monkeys. Guitar work is killer, drums are good, whole song is catchy as hell.

@Heat Reminds me a lot of my edgy teenage years where I thought rock, metal, punk and stuff like that was the best thing ever. I'm glad I have broadened my musical taste ever since.

I like the melody and the lack of screaming lyrics, so I'll give it a 3.5/5.
If I go purely off of the guitar play, it'd be an easy 4.5/5 cause that just sounds nice.

Korean rap, right? Sounds good. Not something I would usually go for, but that's why I love this thread: you find stuff you wouldn't usually listen to. 7/10

I dig it, I'll give it a 8/10. Singer sounds like Chris Cornell, whole song has a nineties' rock feel to it.

@Heat Funny you compare him to Chris Cornell, because I was talking to a friend about Highly Suspect, and I told them it reminded me of early-90s Soundgarden.

Cool song. the instrumentals were good. The vocals could have been better but not entirely unbearable. 7/10

Reviving this thang.

@Altered Tundra 5/10. It's not really anything special, I didn't hate it or love it but it was okay. The piano was pretty cool at the start though.

Gotta post this due to the gif.

Was never big on Deathlok, but this song wasn't half bad. The intro was pretty lit, though I did find it a bit repetitive. Could have went maybe ten seconds less than what it was. Vocally, again not too bad. Still not a huge Deathlok fan, but this was definitely one of their better songs.

I'd give that a solid 7/10, though I'm not usually a fan of "that sort of thing" (it turns out that most of the 'metal' stuff I listen to is, according to a friend, symphonic metal), there's that really kind of raw emotion to the voice that metal does so well, and that's a-okay in my book. It gets a bonus point too for that sort of slightly lo-fi ending where it sounds like it's being recorded from the back of a tiny venue.
