Jeanette 'Mosi' Crane

Location: Wyndham Estate

Sure enough Fyror followed her towards the church, a thing that made Mosi smile once more. She found a company to hang with outside of the cheap pubs she visits from time to time where manners were non existent! This was a new experience in these lands and she found it quite good. Maybe things continued better from this point onwards, but considering later she'd have to go to check those wards, they'd probably have to separate at that time. Ohh well nothing to be done about it.

Finally they passed by Millicent's place. It was just where Jeanette remembered it to be. She'd pass by here on occasion whenever she's on one of her walk abouts. Even here people were hurrying off to places, seems like the commotion from the park had reached them. Not surprising, considering the nature of the death of that woman. Death by Cargast was a very loud event. The extend of human body's capabilities were truly quite impressive, but in this case it was presented in truly morbid way.

Just outside the Wyndham Estate, Mosi's eyes picked out a very familiar person! A person she'd call a friend actually. Virginia Crypt was there! A thing that Mosi never expected to cross in right this moment. Without losing speed, she redirected slightly to the side as she ran over to her friend.” Virginia, never expected to see you here like this! How have you been?” She said with a smile and looked back towards the park.

” I need to warn you that something strange is going on. A cargast attacked a woman back in Hyde park in broad daylight!” She said and sighed, before looking forwards once more.” I'm going to go report it to a nearby church so they can get some people better... suited to fighting those ghostly bastards.”

Virginia nodded. Most found it curious that despite training in the colonies, Virginia never learned the skill of the presence guard. But it was not quite so strange. Virginia's fascination resided with the mind--and so, her skills were partnered along with that. Her training in throwing axes was the only true skill she cared for beyond various forms of astral projection. However, a name did come to mind that might be called upon to inspect the presence guards at the Wyndham Estate.

"I shall send word to Miss Crane," Virginia replied. "She is quite skilled with the maintenance of presence guards."

However, there was no need for Virginia to send a messenger to her semi-American friend. As her dear friend Milli pointed out, Mosi and a stranger were dashing away from Hyde Park. The surname was certainly a most peculiar one--Sir Kildragon. Yet there was little time for Virginia to make inquiries with Millicent as to the unknown individual, as the pesky voice of Mrs. Wyndham bellowed out from the halls of the manor.

"Attend to your mother, I shall speak with Miss Crane and Sir Kildragon," Virginia replied, smiling softly at Millicent. Her smile dropped as her friend vanished into the confines of the manor. Her friend's mother doubtlessly had some sort of domestic horrors that Millicent needed to attend to. Virginia then turned, greeting Mosi and Sir Kildragon as they approached.

"I had the most horrid of nightmares recently," Virginia stated wistfully, in reply to Mosi's inquiry as to her health. "As expected, I am thus quite well. I hope that you are the same, though I do not doubt misery and sorrow's cloaks would prove most becoming on you, dear Mosi." Her eyes were drawn slightly to the traveling companion of Miss Crane, but Virginia's expression did not change from her usual, distant gloom inspired curiosity.

"A cargast in London?" Virginia repeated, her eyebrows ever so slightly raised. There had not been an incident in quite some time. Combined with the night terror she had experienced, Virginia felt concern creep up on her, like a second skin sliding into place. The barricade appeared to have lost its effect. Something was in motion, she was quite certain of it. "How peculiar an occurrence. A Pentatone Box will need to be procured, and if the church is unable to fashion someone with suitable skills, please do come to fetch me. You do know how I adore to project my mind, and with my dear friend ensuring my fragile body comes to no significant peril, it should be a decidedly pleasant and simple task."

Jacques Clerc

Location: Market

The crowd did not seem to be calming down, in fact it only seemed to get angrier and angrier with each passing moment, earning a gulp from Jacques. He began to worriedly glance around at the requests of what killing would work. Following Mary, he kept his eyes on the crowd as he tugged at his collar for a moment. ”Perhaps we should pick up the pace, Miss Hale,” he suggested, nervously looking at the catholic for a moment before the crowd took his gaze. Jacques seemed to be sweating at the tension in the air, the demands only growing more and more outrageous by the second.

That was until one heathen comment caught his ears, "Why should we listen to you? You all are the cause of this! The church brought these things into the world! And now we're supposed to believe you'll get rid of them and protect us!" Spinning on his heel, Jacques spotted the person who dared make the comment. Before he hand a chance to remark, another heathenous remark reached his ears. "Yeah! Think about it! Jesus came back in seventy-two hours from the dead! So do these creatures! Their god did this!"

The man’s head snapped to the person who dared suggest the very idea, anger boiled in his blood and he wanted to fight them. ”Do you really believe such heathous words?! You dare mock our merciful lord and saviour, Jesus Christ! Jesus was resurrected by God’s will! The devil has obviously blinded you and no longer will I no longer associate myself with one who has embraced the devil’s view over God’s word! I say good day to you, sir!,” roared Jacques, no longer caring that the crowd around him still wished the boy’s death. Reverend Clerc spat on the ground in front of the man as one last insult before he turned to continue walking.

He could deal with that of Mary for she worshipped the same God that Jacques, himself, did. His passion was that to be reckoned with and the man was lucky that Jacques had not gone further, clenched fists around the pistol in his hand. Rage burned in his eyes as he made his way to Mary’s horse.

Fyror easily caught up to Jeanette as she hurried out of Hyde Park at a sprint. He matched her pace as he came up alongside her. They then spent the next several minutes running next to each other in a relatively comfortable silence. Relatively is the operative word as he was well aware that more Soulless could be nearby, watching and waiting for an opportune moment to strike. If a Cargast could successfully breach Jericho’s Barricade, he had no doubt that other Soulless would soon follow suit. And why would they not? After all, London was a ripe hunting ground stocked full of potential prey. With that in mind, Fyror carefully surveyed the terrain as they headed for a nearby church, intent on reporting the horrid incident that had just occurred in Hyde Park. To scan his surroundings, Fyror had to swivel his head further than the average person due to his limited line of sight. All the while, he kept his footfalls as quiet as possible, utilizing his skill at shadōtoyūgō (stealth). He figured the quieter they were the less attention they would draw and the more his excellent hearing could pick up. In the end, he didn’t need good eyesight to tell if they were being followed.

Five minutes of running down the empty dirt road had gone by when a manor came into view. Jeanette suddenly deviated from her original course to head towards the manor for reasons unknown to Fyror. A group of people that had been congregated outside were quickly dispersing. He caught a glimpse of a familiar face before she disappeared into the confines of the manor. If he was not mistaken, it was Millicent Wyndham. The last time he had seen her she had attempted to lessen the devastating blow caused by her mother’s slight of him. “I would be more than blessed to have a man of honor as a husband than any other cretin in the room,” Millicent had boldly spoken up in contradiction to her mother’s implication that he was unworthy of her daughters due to his mangled appearance. Whether Millicent truly meant her words, he knew not. “Forgive me sir, please,” had been her departing words.

Fyror was pulled from his thoughts as Jeanette called out to the sole person standing outside the manor. The woman’s name was Virginia, apparently, and she was evidently acquainted with Jeanette. The woman had abnormally pale skin, almost reminding him of a ryne. His head tilted to the side the slightest as he watched and listened to her speak with Jeanette. She was peculiar in her manner of speaking, and her demeanor gave little away. She seemed to be knowledgeable in the ways of hunting Cargast, which is probably why Jeanette went out of her way to speak with the woman. He kept quiet, not wanting to interrupt their conversation. Besides, he was here for Jeanette’s protection, nothing more and nothing less. Well, maybe that wasn’t strictly true. He admittedly enjoyed being in the company of someone who was not deterred by his mangled appearance. It was a nice change of pace.

Location: Wyndham Estate -> Hyde Park

As Millicent's mother and sisters came out to spoke up, Nathan forced a curt smile to them all as he listened to Mrs. Wyndham's comments, hands clasped neatly behind his back as he sighed. Turning to Millicent, he nodded at her own comment. "No need for apology, Ms. Wyndham." He said, turning his gaze to Gerard as Millicent continued, Nathan nodded. "Just grant me a moment to get my equipment from my carriage, and I will be right along, Mr. Connolly." He said, letting the man head up ahead as he moved back to the carriage, taking a firm hold of his belt and sheathes, placing them on and securing them neatly as he moved off after Gerard toward the park.

A Cargast was certainly not Nathan's area of expertise, the physical was where he generally lended his skills, dispatching the ethereal was something he would tend to leave to those far more qualified. Catching up with Gerard, Nathan's eyes flicked over the fog as it shifted away, he nodded his head toward Gerard. "I'm not as well versed with them, so let's hope it's not too much of a concern, hm?" He commented as he followed along with the stable-hand, looking down to the body of the woman as they approached it. Looking over her face, he sighed somewhat and shook his head.

"Not that I would know, i'm afraid, but I don't imagine the Cargast would have gone off and left her alive, I imagine the most we can do is ensure she's properly laid to rest." He shrugged, bowing his head somewhat. He'd say a prayer for the poor woman later, but for the time being, his focus was on ensuring that her body could be taken to the church, and someone more equipped to deal with the Cargast could be notified, hopefully this was an isolated incident, the last thing he needed were more soulless popping up.

Millicent Wyndham

Location: Wyndham Estate near Hyde Park (Out Front)

Millicent stood in her room, looking at herself in the mirror as she rubbed her cheek. The bluestocking had never been one to wear powder on her face, but she stood still as Abigail did her best to cover the welting red mark on her cheek. Mrs. Wyndham had lost her temper yet again when it came to Millicent and her turning away suitors she felt were unworthy of herself or her sisters. Her hand had come swift and hard against Millicent's cheek and was threatening to bruise by the time evening came. She was used to these types of hits, growing accustomed to them over the years but normally her step-mother would not risk them on a day where she was to have to be out in public. This time was different though, she had turned away a high raking peer and not just turned him away but humiliated him in the process, in front of others no less. Elizabeth had reached her tolerance point, which was always low on days of events, and struck Millicent on her right cheek without warning when she had stepped into the room.

"There ya are Miss Milli, can hardly tell," Abigail said quietly as she stepped back. Millicent leaned into her mirror and took a closer look. The red and discoloring were for the most part covered but there was a heavy layer of powder on her face and it seemed to accentuate the rise of skin, nearly outlining the hand print. It was better than just parading around with the so called battle scar though in Millicent's mind. Perhaps it would pass for now. Come this evening though, she could only hope that the welting went down. Then again, perhaps it was a blessing and she should let it show in its fully glory come time for the event. What man would dare bother her looking as if she was mangled. It may just by her a repast for the evening, if only for herself so she could better focus on what her sisters were getting thrown into.

"You have my most humble of thanks Abee, thank you," she said before composing herself and making her way quickly down the stairs of the manor. She had at least one friend out on the lawn that she knew of and two of dear friends were out checking on what had occurred in the park. Millicent had sworn she had recognized Miss Crane and Sir Kildragon coming out of the park. Perhaps Virginia had been good enough to speak to them and they had some answers. She could only hope but hope was running out for Millicent these days as she felt the sting of her cheek as she stepped out the front door of her home. Swallowing slightly she lifted her chin and stepped off the front steps, making her way over towards the three that were standing there.

Millicent had been right in her thoughts, it was indeed whom she had thought she had seen. Stepping over towards the trio she waited for a moment of silence before she said anything, not wanting to interrupt the conversation. Once the time came she smiled as best she could towards them. "Miss Crane, always a pleasure to see you. Do my ears deceive me or do you have answers to the burning question that I have; what has occurred in the park to send so many fleeing?" she said with a slight tilt of the head. Her eyes darted over towards Fyror for a moment and cursed herself inwardly. She should have addressed him first before asking questions of another.

Turning she gave the baron a deep curtsy before rising and lifting her chin. "Please do forgive my horrendous break of manners Sir Kildragon. This day has me acting the fool. Always a pleasure to see a man such as yourself grace my presence. Would you two care to carry on the conversation within the confines of the manor? It seems there is much to discuss and I would be honored to have you both seat with Virginia and myself over tea and scones whilst we await the return of Mr. Connolly and Mr. Darcy." Her voice was kind and reserved as she spoke, motioning towards the door of her home. The outdoor light seeming to do no help in covering the mark on her cheek but only enhancing it.

"He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone at her.”

Location: Marketplace near St. Paul's Cathedral

Instigators in the crowd, riling them into a state of hatred and near-violence. The eloquent expression of a rational comparison between the death and ascension of Jesus Christ and the death and reanimation of one of the Soulless... it was not something that a mob would do. Mobs do not wax philosophically. They express fear and anger, then try to impose "justice" upon whatever they dislike at the moment, moving onward without such constraints as individual thought or civilized demeanor.

Mary had strong suspicion that this near-riot was planned. Staged to begin turning the people against the Clergy (either Catholic or Anglican, denomination had no bearing in this instance) and against the Church. Not that every decision made by the Holy Father, any of them for that matter, was embraced completely by the common man, but open aggression against the Church (either of them) during a time when the Church was a massive boon to humanity against the Soulless... Well, it raised very serious questions.

Sadly, these questions could not be answered at this time. Priorities forced Mary into more immediate action; namely getting this child over her shoulder to safety. She faced sideways, reversing her grip on her halberd and took off at a run. Or, as best a run as she could accomplish carrying an unconscious boy. The steel endcap of her Swiss polearm led the way as she threaded through the onlookers and bystanders.

To stay and fight, to argue even, when the life of an innocent was at immediate risk was a blatant act of Pride. Putting her skills to the average market-goer under such circumstances might not be sinful, if she was attacked, but it would be wholly counterproductive. She had enough problems in London without killing a few citizens under the watchful eye of their Presbyter. Even if the good Reverend was in the same situation as herself. And speaking of the good Reverend...

"We need to get behind the walls of Ely, Reverend." stated Mary with muted urgency as she slung the child across her horse, Cassius. She leapt upon the saddle. "I am offering our protection. But we must be quick about it." The Apostolic reined around and began at a speed appropriate to the crowd behind her back to the Church of St. Etheldreda.

Gerard Connolly

Location: Hyde Park; Outside Wyndham Estate; on the way to St. Etheldreda Cathedral.

Gerard is disheartened to think that there's nothing more they can do for her, taking her remains to the church was the only best thing they can do for her. Though raised catholic Gerard was never one with religion, he would attend church every so often but only to pass his afternoon breaks, sitting on the benches to whisper a little prayer or two. He guessed that somebody from the cathedral would know how to help them in this situation. He thought it would take an hour or so if they go there on foot, so it's more practical to go either on horseback, or by carriage.

He looked up to Mr. Darcy, "I reckon it would be wise to bring her over to St. Etheldreda." he said "Someone there might know what's best for her. What do you think?" He took another sorry look at the now cold body, his heart wrenching at the sight of the second woman he have lying dead in his arms.

Gerard insisted in carrying the body. They had to stop by at the estate first to let Milli know of what they plan to do. He caught her just as she was about to head in along with some other company. He stood just outside the lot when he called out to catch her attention. He dinnt wish to come any closer in fear of giving Mrs. Wyndham a heart attack if she should ever see him carrying a dead woman around her home. He would tell Milli that they would bring the body to the church in the hopes that someone there know how to deal with it

"A short ride to the cathedral wont be a problem. " he said with a soft reassuring smile. He would help in anyway he can if it means keeping Milli and her family safe, making that promise to himself since he turned a new leaf. There was nowhere else he could find purpose. He looked at her with slight unease as he noticed Milli's soft mark on her cheek, he would very well ask her what happened but after that episode with Lord Ratherford and Mrs. Wyndham's unhappy reaction, he could've guessed much.

He took one of the horses at the stables and hung the woman's body on the horse. He turned to Mr. Darcy "We would be able to reach the cathedral in a few." he said as he saddled up. "Let's just hope we find someone there who could truly help."

Jeanette 'Mosi' Crane

Location: Wyndham Estate

“Quite the unpleasant surprise it was when we saw it.” Mosi stated with a frown as she looked back towards Hyde park.” I have a very bad feeling about this, Virginia. There are little things that just irk me the wrong way. Like a souless appearing just before a big event as the one that's going to be happening later today.” Jeanette said with a sigh then, her face getting a very unhappy expression.” I will be attending the event at the Almacks later. I received a request to check their Presence Guards and an invitation to the event itself. Coupled with some incredibly unpleasant nightmares, I just don't believe good things are coming.” Mosi stated and looked down the street.” I wish I had time to perform an Ethete, but sadly seem today I will be pressed for time. ”

“Will do if they are not able to summon a specialist for this fast enough, but I also suspect the cargast will require some tracking down as I'm really doubtful the ghostly annoyance will stay at that place for too long.” Mosi replied with a smile and let out a soft laugh.” Yes, I can at least provide physical protection. Wait... you had terrible nightmares too?” She asked, realizing Virginia's statement. As someone who grew up in the New World, she knew that dreams were a very important thing, one that often brought signs.

After that Jeanette looked at Fyror and smiled.” I should introduce you two, Virginia, this is Fyror. I met him during my daily morning walk in Hyde park. He's a good person and one I will be able to call friend. Fyror, this is Virginia, a friend of mine whom I've known for years.” She introduced the two of them to each other, with a rather informal manner. Friendships should be thing forged fast and true. Artificial 'formalities and manners' only got in the way~

“Miss Wyndham, it's always a pleasure to meet you too, wish it was under better circumstance though.” Mosi replied with a smile and slight bow of her head, attempting to keep some semblance of manners with Milli. Not so much cause she cared about what people will consider of her, but more of respect toward the other woman who appeared to held those manners in importance, but in a true way that defied the nonsense of the society.” Yes, a Cargast has appeared behind the walls. Right in Hyde park no less. It attacked in broad daylight.” Mosi quickly explained not losing any more time.” I plan to go to the nearby church in hope for them to get someone who could deal with this specific entity. I sadly lack the ability to oppose them directly.”

“I just hope things get dealt with quickly here. Because as much as I dislike it, I need to go to the Almacks later in advance, before the event starts, to inspect their Presence Guards. Considering one Cargast made it inside, it's better to make sure such public places with lots of people are well protected.”

Location: the Wyndham Estate

Virginia found Sir Kildragon's scarring to be rather charming, only serving to accentuate his features. He bore the mark of conflict, revealing bravery rather than the cowardice that consumed British society. While unfamiliar with more than Mosi's introduction to go from, Virginia had no notions as to the origin of the mark. She could only but guess that it had come from some war--whether public or private in nature. She nodded curtly at him, a soft smile playing on her lips. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Fyror," Virginia greeted. If he would call her by her given name, so be it. She grew tired of the airs of society, and any friend of Mosi's would soon be a friend of hers, Virginia was certain.

"Perhaps a game is afoot," Virginia murmured. "It would be a most thrilling method of execution, unleashing the soulless into one of the galas of the Season. I share your discomfort, dear Mosi, of course..." However, to those unfamiliar with Virginia--and perhaps even those familiar with her--she seemed just as intrigued by the possibility. Night terrors experienced by those learned in the ways of the New World? A cargast in London? She found herself with only more points of inquiry to make, but Virginia did feel concern for the safety of dear little James in particular. If he did not have Alfred there to tend to him and protect him, Virginia would have returned to the townhouse at once.

"You should take care to seek me out at the event tonight, dear Mosi," Virginia added. "I fear that the longer my father remains lost at sea, the more suitors appear at my doorstep. It is such a tiresome affair, rejecting their attempts at courtship. Your company would be most welcome amongst the horrors of domesticity." However, Virginia frowned ever so slightly, as she noticed the mark on her dear friend's face. There had been an attempt to conceal it, but the imprint was there on Millicent's cheek, plain as day.

Milli's mother had mastered the art of cruelty, but in a form that not even a Crypt could enjoy. The pain and abuse experienced by her dearest friend, all at the hands of that monstrous woman, more than vexed Virginia. Yet she knew that as long as Milli and her sisters remained unwed, the despicable woman would not cease her alarming efforts. She made a quiet resolution to broach the subject with Milli once the others had left and the Hyde Park affair had been settled. Perhaps the Wyndham sisters might be invited for a brief sojourn at the townhouse or the manor.

"It would appear that Mr. Connolly and Mr. Darcy have dispatched themselves to the church to approach the affair as well," Virginia observed. Mosi would be able to have tea with Milli and herself, but Virginia knew her friend was likely to choose action over idle chatter. Sir Kildragon remained the greatest mystery, yet Virginia felt he would choose similarly to Mosi. The pair were kindred spirits, from what Virginia could glean.

Fyror listened to Jeanette and Virginia’s conversation in thoughtful silence. They both seemed to share to some degree his concern for the sudden appearance of a Soulless within the confines of London. At the mention of the event at Almacks tonight, his mind immediately went back to his family. He had a sinking feeling that despite the extra precautions put into place, Almacks would not be any safer. His heart constricted at the thought of his whole family being there. Some of the other officers from Colchester Garrison would be there as well. Fyror knew he must inform them upon their arrival of the present danger posed by the invading Soulless. If the threat increases, it may be beneficial for more of the regiment to be brought into London and to do a thorough sweep of the city. He hoped it wouldn’t be necessary, but he was open to the possibility. He would do almost anything to keep people safe.

Fyror’s brows furrowed slightly at the remark that both Jeanette and Virginia had nightmares recently. A small shiver went down his spine as he briefly recalled his own nightmare. Was it simply a coincidence that they all had nightmares around the same time? Or was it an omen of something terrible to come? He was pulled from his thoughts when Jeanette introduced him to Virginia. A genuine smile graced his lips once more. “The pleasure’s all mine, miss,” he replied politely in response to Virginia as he inclined his head. He found her quite peculiar, but nevertheless he would treat her with respect. Surely, she didn’t find enjoyment in pain and suffering?

His gaze shifted to Millicent Wyndham as she exited the manor and approached them. He respectfully inclined his head in greeting, but she hadn’t seemed to notice him yet. His eyes roamed the soft contours of her face as she addressed Jeanette. He quickly noticed the mark that marred her beautiful face. He could make out the shape of a handprint underneath a layer of powder, likely used to camouflage it. His gaze became more intense, almost piercing, as anger filled him. How dare someone strike a woman?! If I catch the culprit, I swear I will give them a piece of my mind!

It took a moment for Fyror’s gaze to soften when Millicent turned to acknowledge his presence. He vaguely hoped she had not caught sight of him seemingly glaring in her direction. He did not wish to give her the wrong idea. He maintained steady eye contact with her as she spoke. Her offer to further discuss the situation in Hyde Park was tempting, but he was adamant to accompany Jeanette to the church as planned. “I am afraid that I must decline the offer. I wish to accompany Ms. Crane to the nearby church to ensure she gets there safely. There could be more Soulless in London, so one can never be too careful. Thereafter I must return to my family. My brother is currently watching over my mother and sister,” Fyror replied apologetically. “I will be at Almacks tonight with my family. Perhaps we will meet again there.”

Fyror heard movement behind him, alerting him to the presence of another. He spun on his heels, and his hand once more went instinctively to the hilt of his sword. His face fell when he saw a man holding the dead body of the Cargast’s latest victim.

Millicent Wyndham

Location: Wyndham Estate near Hyde Park (Out Front -> Inside)

Millicent covered her mouth as she watched Gerard approach with the body of the woman. This was not what she had been expecting for the day. "Yes of course, do what you must Mr. Connolly," she said quietly as she lowered her hand. It wasn't the first time she had seen someone succumb to a Soulless but that did not make the situation any less traumatic though she had to wonder why he would take the carriage to the Cathedral that would take at least a half an hour to get there even with the horses during this time of the day and not just go to the church that was a few doors down, or at least if he was going that far out of the way why did he not take her to her own Church at St. Peter's where there was someone there that was familiar with the family. Yet he had come and gone so quickly she was left no time to question or barely even answer him.

Turning back to her guests she brought herself out of the thought process to address them. Taking in what each said in turn she gave a tilt of her chin before speaking. "It seems that all of you require your attentions elsewhere for the time for the greater good. Please do not let me hold you from your set destinations, I do hope to find you at the event this evening. If you would prefer I can have my butler summon a hackney for you both to quicken your steps." she said respectfully before turning towards Virginia and singling her out. "Do you need to leave as well or did you wish to discuss this favor you had in mind before you leave? I know that you are well aware that I will be of any service that I can be to you. I shan't be able to leave the manor until this evening for the event though I fear. With the current happenings I feel it would be prudent if I remained to guard my sisters and my mother in my fathers absence. I could not in good conscience leave it to the staff of the house to place their lives on the line for my family. I hope you can forgive me."

"Millicent Wyndham, do stop gallivanting about outside with these outcasts! You must prepare yourself for the evening ahead if you dare hope to make up to Lord Rutherford for your atrocious behavior towards him this morning," Mrs. Wyndham bellowed out of the front window on the second floor. Millicent felt her jaw tightening but relaxed her features before she turned to face the woman who was not only calling down to her but speaking down to those around her.

"Yes mother, I shall be up post haste," Millicent managed to call back before turning and facing the ones with her. Elizabeth scoffed and slammed the window shut before dropping the curtains down once again. "Do forgive my mother, she is nervous about this evening. Please, allow me to have a hackney called for you two, I will pray that you have no other encounters with the Soulless this evening and to be blessed with your presence at the event this evening," Millicent said in a disheartened voice before gathering the folds of her skirt and making her way back to the steps of the manor. Stopping to speak with her butler for a moment before walking over the threshold.

The elderly man came out and to the street, a few snaps of his fingers and a whistle later a coach pulled up to the sidewalk and the driver hopped down, opening the door for those that chose to use it. "With Miss Milli's compliments," the butler said to the driver, handing him over several pieces of silver for his troubles and to cover any distance within the city that he may need to take them.

"Very generous Gov, now, where be we off to?" the young boy asked, he couldn't have been more than twelve winters of age but that was not uncommon for drivers in London. His clothing once used to be finery but it was obviously handed down several times over and was far to large for him, yet he was making due and he smiled over towards them.

Millicent was not sure what she could do to help her friend but she was willing to do anything she could for the woman, she was dear to her, few were.

As he watched Gerard take the body, Nathan gave him a nod. "A novel idea, I am afraid Cargast and the ethereal are not my area of expertise, t'would be best to bring her to someone more skilled, though perhaps one of the closer churches would be better, the less time outside, the better." He commented, moving along with Gerard, his hand resting gently on his hilt. He knew something had to be going on, a Cargast didn't just show up in the middle of London and attack a woman at random, there was something in the air which he didn't like, things were afoot which weren't going to go well, that was the feeling which nagged at Nathan's conscience as he moved back toward the Wyndham Estate with Gerard, letting the man go up to Millicent to let her know their plans.

In the meanwhile, he moved over to his carriage, still waiting, unhooking one of the horses from it and retrieving a saddle from the carriage itself to place on the horse. It wouldn't be a long ride, but he preferred to have the support and comfort of the saddle itself. As Gerard came back out with his own horse, Nathan climbed up onto his mount, adjusting his jacket idly and glancing down again to the blades resting on his belt, he hoped he would not have to use them, but he certainly couldn't imagine taking them off just then, he preferred to have the extra insurance.

"Let us stop at the nearby church first, best to not waste time with the long trip if our issue can be resolved here first, hm?" He offered a smile to Gerard before beginning to head down toward the church, casting his eyes around from time to time, as if to ensure he was not caught off guard by anything sinister.

"Retreat brings dishonor to the Order. But withdrawal is an acceptable strategy.”

Location: St. Etheldreda's/Ely House

It was always a curiosity of Mary's as to where people managed to find fruits and vegetables with which to pelt people at gatherings. Even unplanned events like this, rescuing a child from a Ryne attack (that somehow inspired aggression from the populace) was met with the liberal application of foodstuffs in various stages of decay. Generally, this was not how people reacted when a service was done for them. This is not what people did when she saved a life. Something was very wrong here.

Her horse, Cassius, was well-trained and strong. He bore Mary and her unconscious cargo away from the market with surety and speed. Of course, Mary made sure that she did not get so far ahead as to lose her more vocal colleague, the Reverend Clerc. It was only a short ride from the market near St. Paul's Cathedral to St. Etheldreda's Church, but a more bracing run for the Frenchman following. The young Apostolic felt a momentary twinge of guilt, not offering him the use of her horse. But her priority lay with the boy.

The horse and rider made it into the stable entrance at a trot, with Sister Hale dismounting before the animal came to a complete stop. Mary was already removing the child from the front of her saddle and unwinding her bindings. She had thrown the child over a shoulder and was in the middle of re-wrapping the black cloth around her forearm when a one of the lay folk approached; a stablehand, flanked by two of the cloistered nuns assigned to the church. They looked somewhat annoyed at her appearance. Mary cut them off before they began. "There was Ryne attack in the market near St. Paul's Cathedral." she began, eyes narrowing at the trio as if to dare them to interrupt her. She was a Dame of the order of St. Sylvester, not a neophyte Sister or lay employee of the Church for them to scold at will. Though sometimes, she understood the confusion. Mary was a young woman yet, and she had the look of a fresh-faced girl half of the time.

"I healed the boy. His soul is safe, as well. The people in the marketplace weren't as sure; they wanted me to kill him. We might have started a riot." Mary looked back to see Jacques nearing the entrance behind them. "The moment he is inside, I want those gates closed and barred. All of the portals closed and barred. Riot or no, something unnatural is happening." Mary handed the reins off to the stable hand, and pointed at one of the Nuns who was still standing about, partially in surprise at what the Dame was telling her, partially taken aback at this younger girl speaking to her in a commanding manner. Of course, if the matter concerned the Soulless or the defense of Ely, she was the Knight assigned by the Order with the blessing of the Papacy; it was her call, to be overridden only by a member of the Clergy of appropriate position.

"You may overstep, Dame Mary. I should inform the Bishop before we..."

"Excellent, Sister. Please inform Bishop Mansfield of my decision. I welcome his counsel. Before that, you will have those doors and gates barred, and ensure the security of our home without further argument. And you," she continued, looking to the other Nun in the group an spoke in a softer voice, "Please give the boy someplace quiet and safe to rest. Make sure he has a good, warm meal when he wakes. It is not safe for him out there, not for at least three days. Thank you very much, Sister. I shall check on him upon my return." She paused for a moment, before shrugging off her white and red robe, now splattered with the varied stains of market produce, courtesy of the mob. "And Sister, please? Would you be as kind as to make sure that this gets into the laundry before it all sets? I would be very grateful. Thank you."

As the Reverend approached, Mary held out her hand. She received her Howdah Pistol without comment and holstered it at her side. "You are welcome to stay within these walls for as long as you require, Reverend. I might suggest a walk in our Garden, maybe take some of our fresh strawberries. If you want, we can offer you food and quartering. For now, I have an obligation to keep. Good day, Reverend."

Mary excused herself from the courtyard and began walking further into the Ely House proper, away from the more village-like area of the Palace's grounds. She began to run as soon as she was out of sight, through the straight corridors and even stairs of the castleish structure, up to her private quarters. "Getting ready", for her, wasn't a particularly arduous affair. She chose a formal cloak, used by her Order on more official business. It was black with silver edging, and a particularly large equidistant cross decorated the back, and over the heart, stitched with fine white and silver thread. It wasn't her favorite look (her white robe was unmistakably that), but it was in order with her duties for the evening and matched her cassock flawlessly. She checked her weapons and changed into a fresh cassock, adjusted the cloth wrappings around her waist and forearms, and ran a brush through her hair. She looked quite the representative of her Order. But she knew that she would undoubtedly be referred to merely as "Sister" for the remainder of the evening. Mary supposed it fit; after all she was a Sister in the service of Rome, at large in the greater world. Almost as an afterthought, Mary procured a series of ampules containing holy water. Just in case they needed her to make a blessing, host or guests either.

After writing down a simple note describing her expected plans for the rest of the day, Mary exited her quarters and handed it off to a page, insisting that he bring it to the Bishop. She made a brief stop by the kitchens, grabbing a flask of water, one of wine, and a strawberry-rhubarb pie wrapped tightly in white cloth.

The next few minutes found her back at her dappled grey stallion, fresh and armed, readying to return to Greater London. There was an appointment at Almack's Assembly Rooms that Mary had to keep. She tucked her provisions and extra equipment into the saddlebags, swung herself into the saddle with the skill of a seasoned equestrian, and hefted her halberd into a rest position. Looking out past the gates, Mary had to decide whether it would be safe to venture out the main exit, or if prudence dictated a more discreet exit elsewhere.

Jeanette 'Mosi' Crane

Location: Wyndham Estate

“Of course, I always will be there to be of help to a friend.” Mosi replied when Virginia commented about unwanted suitors and how her presence seemed to repel unwanted elements. Granted Jeanette was well aware of that effect despite the fact she did not care any about it. Still it apparently had it's uses so she might as well make use of it indeed! Despite helping your friends and those in need was a obligation most important.

“Yes, it would appear someone beat us to the report of the tragic event.” Mosi nodded as the men appeared and rode then away on horses. It was quite the good thing she decided. People who were actually interested on what was going on and ready to seek aide for it.” Still they may be also headed to report the tragic death and the appearance of the Cargast, but it doesn't mean I can simply leave it in the middle of the task.” She added with a smile and nod towards Milli and Virginia.

“Thank you, miss Wyndham.” Mosi said when the girl called a coach for them.” Still I must say that you should feel free to ask for my services as unwanted affection repellent the same way Virginia does if you have the need for it.” Mosi said with a half joking smile. She didn't really have any real way to help the woman right now, but even despite the half joking sounding tone of the sentence, she still meant every word of it.” If you ever need any help in something, feel free to but ask and I will come.”

With that said she then turned towards Fyror as Millicent went back inside. Mosi didn't like her family situation, but it simply was not her position to interfere... then again she rarely cared about causing commotion. The main reason she did not attempt to do anything was because Millicent herself. Mosi respected her and the way how she had chosen to live her life. Her determination and for those reasons, unless asked to, she'd not interfere... well mostly. She'd probably just go and act if things were really bad such as complete physical abuse or even worse.

“Fyror, shall we head off now?” She asked as the hackney was by them now.” I'm thinking we inform the people from the church what happened and after that I'm personally thinking of returning home. I need to prepare for the official event later and as I've said, I will need to be there early to inspect their wards.” She added with a sigh, just thinking about all the things her 'mother' would make her do before she's free to go. She even suspected that she'd be forced to wear a dress. Well she'd have some more comfortable clothes under the dress anyways. No one could stop her in that regard.

“What will you do after we report this?” She asked, wondering what Fyror's plans were. The coach could easy drop him by the place his family was and then take her to her home.

Location: the Wyndham Estate

She did suppose that she had been invited to check the city for threats at Almack's, prior to the evening's event. Yet a discussion as to whether or not James should be sent to be trained appeared to be more pressing, in her mind's eye. She did quite enjoy taking her walks without the movement of her body. Astral projection was always a fond skill of hers, and with a slight mischievous edge, she supposed there was no reason that she could not perform her task here at the Wyndham Estate. She would much prefer to leave her corpse defenseless in the company of friends, at any rate.

She bade her farewells in the form of a nod to Mosi and Fyror, hardly hiding her distaste as Millicent's mother scolded her once more. Her presence seemed to either inspire ridicule for her friend, or evolved into some pressing attempt to wed Millicent to James. The woman was most strange to Virginia, yet she knew her monstrous nature rather well, after befriending Millicent. Elizabeth Wyndham belonged in a special ring of hell--and to be clear, not one of the entertaining rings, either.

Joining Millicent inside the house, Virginia followed her friend, willing to help her prepare for the event if needed. The mark on her cheek would likely not fade before the event, and likely spark lines of inquiries as to the state of the Wyndham home. But if Millicent was not concerned over the mark, then so be it. Virginia saw it as a battle wound--a mark that came from a fight with a bastion of demonic behavior.

"I have an inquiry that I feel you may be able to resolve for me," Virginia admitted, frowning ever so slightly. "James is quite young, but he has already showed a proclivity for the flame. I am quite proud of him, of course--arson is an enjoyable activity, and one I am certain my father would encourage, if present. However...I must admit, I am at war against myself. Dear Alfred and I cannot guard him from the night forever. He must embrace it one day...Is it time, do you think dear friend, that he should be trained?"

Fyror solemnly watches as Mr. Connolly carries the lifeless woman away. He prays that no more innocent lives would be lost, but he had a sinking feeling that his prayer would not be answered. He returns his attention to Millicent when she speaks once more. His gaze lingers on the mark on her face, still angry that someone would dare have the indecency to strike a woman. It was improper and malicious to do such a thing.

Just then, Mrs. Wyndham bellowed out from the second floor window of the manor, causing him to look up sharply. His jaw tightened as her hate filled words struck a nerve. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the first time he had been fallen victim to the woman’s prejudice, and it certainly wouldn’t be the last. The woman was the farthest thing from proper and such a poor role model for her daughters, whom she wished to marry to proper, titled men.

Fyror’s gaze went back to Millicent as she spoke in a disheartened voice. She vaguely gave a reason to her mother’s actions, and he had a feeling she only did so to prevent her family from looking more a fool. Ultimately Millicent was much different from her mother. She was respectable and showed less prejudice, to which he was grateful.

“Thank you, Miss Wyndham,” he stated in response to her providing a hackney for him and Jeanette. He gave a slight bow in farewell to Millicent and Virginia before turning to Jeanette. “Certainly,” he replied to her first question before addressing the coach driver. “We are headed to the nearest church, then we shall head back towards Hyde Park.”

Fyror turned to offer a hand to Jeanette to help her into the coach. “My family is staying in an inn right by Hyde Park. I must get back to them after we are finished with this task,” he responded.

Gerard Connolly

Location: Hyde Park; Outside Wyndham Estate. To St. Peter's Church

Gerard paused and considered Mr. Darcy's suggestion. He was somehow confident in going to the cathedral since he figured it's more likely that some nuns there would be more familiar in solving this problem, or the hope that somehow they will still be able to save her. Even if deep down he knew it was hopeless. But then again considering the time it would take to get them there, heading to St Peters would be more practical, since it's closest to the park. And the sooner they give this dead woman the proper attention, the more better.

The Irishman nodded in agreement "Aye. Then let us head there." Wendy was keen to follow Gerard where ever he was about to head, but instead, looking down at his companion he rather let her stay in the Estate. "I want you to stay here and watch over the stables for me. We wont be long. " Wendy let out a soft whimper, but like the loyal and obedient bodyguard that she is to Gerard, she sat there vigilantly. It would take them just a few minutes to reach St. Peters, all the while Gerard made sure to be watchful of any threats that would unexpectedly come their way.

Millicent Wyndham

Location: Wyndham Estate near Hyde Park (Inside)

Millicent waited within the door, seeing the others leave from her vantage point and waiting to see if Virginia would follow suit or just come on in. Seeing her friend come up the steps of the home she smiled gratefully. She did not want to be alone with her step mother right then considering everything that was going on and the woman's out burst just a few scant moments before. She knew that Elizabeth would not curb her speech in front of guests but having an outsider there did tend to keep the woman's hands from flying so freely in Millicent's direction.

Slipping her arm through Virginia's, Millicent lead Virginia through her home and up the stairs to the second floor where it could be easily heard through the doors that her step mother was voicing her ever over spoken opinion of the people that Millicent chose to be around and none of it was flattering. Milli could do nothing but try to drown it out in her mind as she focused on Virginia's words about her brother.

Once they were inside Millicent's room and the door was closed behind them by Abigail, she let go of Virginia and sat down at her vanity seat, gesturing for her dear friend to have a seat anywhere she wished. "I know you wish not to let your sibling to be out of your protection for such training but I would suggest that you make haste with his training. Not only for his protection but for yours as well. As one that can attest that having untrained figures in the home is daunting. I must remain to see to my sisters protection despite my step mothers wishes for me to wed now. Though I will admit, being able to keep an arms length from many of the unsavories is welcome, being unable to seek anything for myself in hopes of leaving this self imposed prison is taxing. Not that you will have such issues but it is something to be mindful of."

As Millicent spoke, Abigail stepped out to retrieve some boiling water and some merigold petals. Setting them down on one of the tables within the bedroom suite, the handmaid seeped the petals in the water. Dampening a piece of linen she handed it over to Millicent as she finished, Milli pressing the cloth to her cheek and sighing slightly as she looked away from her closest friend.

"I wish our fathers were here to stand by us. To be able to seek their knowledge and experience as well as lean on their strength right now would be a welcome reprieve for us both. How I miss the days when I would sit in my fathers study as he went over the ledgers, listening to what would be coming in on the next ship and what would be sent where. The house was far more level and warm when he was here than it is now. I hope you can forgive me for allowing it to fall to its current state," she said as Abigail gave her a sympathetic look, not wanting to speak against her mistress's step mother, as much as she detested the woman's actions.

Shaking off the morose thought process Millicent looked back over towards Virginia and gave her a half hearted smile. I am sorry to keep you, rambling on as such that I am. Will you be needing any assistance with Almack's? I would be despaired to think your body would be left unprotected should you need to touch on your persona skills."

Nathan Darcy

Location: Wyndham Estate, toward St. Peter's

Nodding his head with a warm smile as Gerard agreed with his suggestion, watching as the dog came to his side and he bid it to remain at the estate. It was not a short ride to the church, and as they began, Nathan decided to grace the trip with some casual discussion, keeping an eye out regardless, cool and collected as always, despite the threat of soulless in the middle of London. "A noble companion, the dog, and a fierce guardian." He commented idly with a smile to himself, his eyes drifting over to a few alleyways they passed as they move along the streets toward the church.

"Have you had it long?" He questioned once more in regards to the dog, being polite as always as he turned his gaze back toward Gerard in anticipation of an answer, one hand holding his reigns and another still resting on his sword hilt, only letting his eyes linger on Gerard for a short period before he looked back away, not wanting to let his guard drop, regardless of how small the trip may have been.
