To be a hero you must put the well being of others over yourself. Selfless and heroic in the face of insurmountable odds. When the world chose to show the darkest side imaginable, it was the light of legends to be that cut through the shadows of doubt and fear. None of this applied to Olipher and Aleph, as they unheroically ran from one terrible incident to the other. From a mugging they managed to turn into a complete street brawl, to a simple baker needing help removing some rats from his basement, Olipher and Aleph promptly displayed they were simultaneously adequate and worthless. The mugger had gotten away but an older man had been given a black eye. A teenager with a big mouth was missing a tooth. A city guard, drunk on the job, had been robbed of his pants as they slept. A young girl had viciously attacked her now ex-boyfriend as Aleph held the mans arms behind their back. Olipher had encouraged the girl through every punch. All in the space of about an hour.. Olipher walked casually beside his new found friend, a bread wrap of some kind with flavored meats and cheese inside was half eaten in hand, and paraded around a large trading square looking for a good fight. Or a bad fight. To be honest, Olly was just looking for something to do. "You said you knew where we're going but.. Ain't we been here before?" "Uh..." Aleph thought back on the events leading up to this point in time. "I believe that was BEFORE the thing with the punching and the ex-boyfriend." "There was a lot of that.." "I might have gotten a bit lost around then." he admitted. "Who were you trying to find, friend Aleph." "Some woman I met yesterday." "Anything to do with that burning house in the slums yesterday? Apparently three individuals lost their life to a madman, so the rumor goes." The rumor being one spread in the trading stalls. A knightess had nearly joined the 3 souls lost. Aleph rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. "Yeah, you're right. I was curious to see if she had escaped unscathed. I don't really recall much, but I do remember needing to thank her for... something? My memory's failing me at the moment..." "Got hit too hard on the head or something?" "Beats me." Aleph shrugged. "Can you recall her name?" He asked, slowly angling his food into the bottom of his helmet. "Maria von... something. Something long." Aleph answered, raising an eyebrow at his companion, who looked rather odd trying to eat with his helmet on. "Say, is... there a particular reason you aren't taking your helmet off? It must be annoying to eat like that." he asked. Olipher turned his head to the side, embarassed at the question but also to show the issue. The ring around his horns where the steel of the helmet met the base of his majestic antlers. The steel was disfigured around them, like they had shrunk or been struck hard. Whatever the reason, they were obviously cutting INTO the horns in many places. "I.. Can't remove the helmet.. I got this when the horns were still maturing and they got bigger and now I can't take off the helmet without destroying it.. I imagine women have similar problems with tight clothing as their breasts mature.." Olipher rubbed his chin idly, unaware of the rude glances nearby women who had overheard his comment were making. "As for Maria? The name is familiar. I believe I was hired by her once upon a time." "...I see." Aleph's gaze was cast downwards in silent mourning for his new friend's misfortune. As he was but a normal human being, troubles with horns escaped him, but if he tried really hard to imagine it, then he was sure he would not like being in the same situation. Probably. Because eating with a helmet on really sucked. "Anyways, I recall at least the feeling of owing her a thank you, and there's only one place someone of her rank should really be found." Aleph looked around the area as he said this. "And that place is... somewhere. I... do seem to be a bit mixed up currently. I'm not used to so much action within such a short span of time, forgive me." A small "eheheh" escaped his lips. "If you're looking for Maria, we had best head to the inner city then. The Iron Bell Knights make their home somewhere in that area. Been a while but I should be able to find her land holdings." Olipher veered from his original path and began the usual slow march ever forward, to new adventures and mysteries. Todays was going to be whether lady Maria had forgiven the Oni for his inappropriate comments about her figure the last time they had met. "Do you think she holds grudges for being called.. heavy built? I hope not.." "Why would she hold a grudge?" "Some women are very insecure about their appearance. I had mentioned she was a well built lady.. I fear the comment had been misunderstood." "Nah. It'll be fine." "You're probably right. Lets go!" Olly accentuated his high spirits with a pat on Alephs back. Together they would find fortune or the grave. Now it was just a matter of which came first.
