Vanps are born from vamp daddy and [s]dumb[/s] human mommy. This is usually mage women but in recent years they've started allowing regular women to opt in for breeding purposes. Touchy subject lot's of controversy right now. Mage can pop up anywhere but chances increase with mage/mage pairings. And humans... ask your mom.

The kids are protected, so the vampire cannot feed from them or anything of the sort. After the academy, the mages dont necessarily have to live with the vampire, simply be available for [s]booty[/s] munchy calls. But a lot do out of convenience and vamps are frickin rich who doesn't damn. There's plenty of space for the fams to grow even if tethered to different vampires.
