If I have downtime beyond taking a short rest, I would like to know if Orchid could somehow work that dragonhide onto his shield, and if so what sort of benefits it'd give him.

He would be able to. However, while Ambush Drakes indeed belong into the subgroup of dragons, their scales are much too "normal" to provide any real added resistance to his shield. It sure could look nice though.

I would like to point out that you may not have the luxury of gaining more HP from short resting. Well, saying I'd like to do it may be an exaggeration, but it's something I'll do. You see, healing on short rest expends the amount of hit dice you used and since you are 1st level (and thus have but one hit die) and have already taken a heal on short rest, you hit dice are expended. You get an amount equal to half of your level (at least one, rounded down I believe) of them back on a long rest, which also fully heals a character.

Ah, so that's how it works. I was always a bit confused about short rest healing, in the homegame I play you can have as many short rests as needed, they just use up to your max in hitdie once. Like if you had 5d12+3 max and end up only getting 30 HP whelp, dems the works. But alright, we can just say I didn't restore the health. I'm only 12/14 anyways.

I chose to advance the story slightly faster than I had originally intended, since I was not sure if you would rather describe your downtime quickly or rather go into detail with a couple of posts. Do tell me if you'd rather have it handled differently so I'll know at least in the future to do it right.


Personally, I always appreciate the advancement of plot, as it prevents dawdling, but I thoroughly enjoy backstory, as well. I believe a compromise can be established. Though my virtual mouth only speaks from my own ignorance, I feel one can describe their downtime as you aforementioned while combining a reaction to your lively post, like Orchid's.

Just my two cents from the peanut galley.

To this I would agree, adding that there also exists an unusual balance in a play-by-post situation compared to that of an actual table. The entire timeline takes significantly longer, as we have all witnessed with not having even yet reached second level, for a number of factors.

As funny as it might seem, I have been contacted in private about a possibly vacating player spot in this game. As it may happen, I would not be opposed to seeing more of your character. You just might find a spot in our game after all.

I also had some questions about her backstory and I was wondering if I could make her a member of the village being attacked. Now. Scroll to spellcasting. 40 HP! With one Goodberry spell as a Life Cleric!

Unsure if Hekazu would approve this, though. I can see another exploitable variant easily, besides Druid 1/Cleric 1 or Magic Initiate as a feat chosen at Level 4, for Kyra. Obviously, no pressure, Norschtalen.

If allowed by the GM, you could pursue a Ranger 2/Cleric 1, for more of an archer feel, it may release you from a committed healer while simultaneously granting you 40 HP with one Level 1 spell.

Wish I had seen this sooner.

It may not be as powerful as you think. Sure, it would make any and all other spells obsolete for downtime healing (which is not something I like but see no reason to ban), since eating a single berry takes an action. 4 HP a turn is not going to be of much use in combat.
