TURN 2
It was 5 o' clock in the morning when the school bells had rung, announcing that the day had begun. The sky was still dark with just a hint of orange light off the horizon, peaking out from the mountains. Groggy students rose from their beds, quick to get dressed and the hallways of the dorm buildings were filled with the sounds of shuffling feet as students began their morning routines. --Dark Magician House-- Mr. O'Dell stood at the entrance of the Dark Magician dorm building, where there was gathered all the students of the dorm, lined back behind the wall. The door was still locked, Mr. O'Dell holding a ring of keys, twirling the key ring around his index finger. "Morning. I'm gonna do some introductions for the newer students. All you older guys can go get your food." Mr. O'Dell said, opening the door for the older students to walk out, though not doing any of the newer students from escaping among the crowd. "Those of you who came on the bus from Tokyo yesterday already know me. If you haven't heard before, I am your dorm leader, Mr. O'Dell. I teach the English classes here and one of the newer teachers at that. Uh... I'm gonna tell you kids a little about myself, then I'll lead you all to the cafeteria for breakfast. Let's see. I'm half-Irish on my dad's side and something else on my mom's side. I'm from Tennesee- born and raised. Been playing Duel Monsters about since I was eight, but never took it too seriously. I still don't take the game too seriously. Went to University in the States, got my Masters in English. I wanted to move to Japan, and so I did. Now I teach English at your school." Mr. O'Dell introduced. He had spoken for about half an hour, allowing students to ask questions in the process, before opening the door for the new students. --Neos House-- Standing at the entrance of the Neos dorm building was a light skinned girl with black hair and a ponytail on the right side of her head and a red eyepatch covering the right side of her eye. She wore a black blazer, a white shirt, a black tie, and a gray miniskirt: the school's uniform. "Good morning everyone!" she shouted excitedly, clearly a morning person. "I'm Etsuko! I'm the dean's daughter and also the Neos Dorm's leader! Yay! I teach Fusion classes here at Saotome Academy to beginners to Fusion, though my specialty is actually in Destiny Draw Probability Theory! Which is one of the advanced classes in the Composite Summoning course! Um. Any questions!? If not, I'll just get out of the way and let you all go get some yummy breakfast!" --Stardust House-- Though Stardust House had the second fewest amount of students living within it, there was still as many rooms as the other dorms. That morning, the lobby was far more quiet than the rest, save for the Odd-Eyes dorm which was the most quiet, especially with only first year students. Dressed in the school uniform with black socks which crept midway up the thigh, a pair of thick, black-rimmed glasses, and her hair tied into a bun was an older woman. Her hair was pitch black, obviously dyed, with patches of her hair grayed at the roots, though her face appeared a bit youthful. In her hand, she held a steaming cup of coffee and on her face in addition to her glasses, she wore a baneful scowl. The woman took a sip of her coffee and sighed before checking her watch and looking back at the students. "Well kids. It's six in the morning. Whoopee. I'm your dorm leader. You can call me Mrs. Momotani. I teach a good majority of the synchro courses so I'm probably gonna see all of y'alls' faces pretty often, I'm sure. Get used to mine. Lord knows I ain't as pretty as I used to be. Questions? No? Outstanding. Go get your food." she said, making her speech as brief as possible before opening the door and crawling back into her office. --Utopia House-- "Good morning kids." said the low rumble of an old, Japanese man. "If you came with me on the bus from the train station yesterday raise your hand. Good. The rest of you, I'm Mr. Inoue, the Utopia dorm leader and teacher of the xyz courses. I also teach courses on turbo dueling and duel runners and am the mixed martial arts club leader. If any of you kids are interested, the school's mixed martial arts club, we meet on the roof of this building every Wednesday at 7 in the morning. Hm... what else...? Uh. The designated smoking areas are in the courtyard and generally fifty feet away from all the buildings and where there's a fire extinguisher around. You kids'll probably see me there a lot. If there aren't any questions, I'll just let you kids get your food and go about your day." --Cafeteria-- There was a large building constructed not more than ten minute's walk away from the dorms. Three stories and with a door on all sides was the cafeteria, a mini mall connected to the south side of it, which was closed for the time being. Three lines were open where students could walk into to get their food, served by machines wearing white aprons and hairnets. "GOOD MORNING!" a robotic voice droned excitedly, the chef-bot spinning around. "WOULD YOU LIKE AN OMELETTE TODAY, SIR?" it asked. Lined up behind heat lamps were several breakfast items. Platters began the line, after which the server-bots would plop down a bowl of steamed rice served out of a large rice cooker behind them and in plain sight; next to that, a small, warm bowl of miso soup; and finally, the students were all asked if they wanted scrambled eggs or grilled fish. A short walk from that was a small salad bar which featured soy beans, dried seaweed, and pickles. Soft drink dispensers were placed along the walls along with stacks of cups. Various juices, tea, sodas, and milk were all available. The cafeteria itself had three floors, the top two laid across the area over the minimall, giving it just enough space to accommodate the school's student population. --Opening Ceremony-- Constructed at the far end of the furthest classroom building was a large auditorium which featured red velvet-like seats which folded down. Several balconies were constructed where the school's many teachers sat down, the lower left balcony closest to the stage left empty. Stepping out on stage was a tall, stocky man with a shaved head and a long, gray beard worn over a black suit. "Good morning everyone. I hope all of you have had a good rest and an equally good if not better breakfast. I'd like to welcome you all to Saotome Duel School." The man introduced himself as the dean, before moving on to introducing all the staff, faculty, and teachers at the school, including mentioning those who were teaching classes at the moment to the older students and thus could not make it. "Now. As is tradition, the new students will participate in the opening ceremony familiarization and placement battle royale. Now! What does this mean!? Effective through all of today, new students will all face off against one another with the entire campus as the battleground. All students will start with double the normal amount of lifepoints- meaning you will all be at 8000! However, after every duel, your lifepoints do not return to 8000. The ceremony will last until the last duelist's life points reach 0! Interrupting duels and helping other duelists is authorized, with the new duelist's turn taking place after the turn he or she interrupted! Without further ado, let the opening ceremony truly begin!" The doors of the auditorium were opened, allowing students to flood out and immediately challenge one another.
