[@NarcissisticPotato] I love you. Seriously. That gif is great, way to not use a traditional mage weapon, artsy and loud, some cliches and some unexpected things mixed together for an entirely unique character. And I can already see the sass. <3
Benchmarks: I am seeing a lot of things that feel more standard RPG than sim, here. [@Gowi] will need to weigh in, but specifying abilities that sacrifice offense for defense doesn't seem to fit, unless she's /better/ at it than another player who uses the same skill but with less experience. Likewise, saying she's "built" around an ability -- and I'm honestly not even sure if there's specific spells or if players sorta craft their own -- to me implies that she allocated points or something, instead of going out and training specific skills. So let's go by individual thing. Firebug makes sense. Spend a lot of time working with fire, possibly getting burned, and you build up resistance. Likewise with casting fire spells, though that might need to be a separate benchmark. Iunno. Glass Cannon doesn't need an extra ability, unless that ability is further enhanced beyond what it can normally do. Health isn't really relevant, and I don't believe there's direct stats, so unless this benchmark specifically decreases her health (and I'm not sure why it would? She just doesn't have any increases to her starting health, would be my guess), it doesn't need mentioning. So what this boils down to is that as a caster of high-powered spells, she deals more damage when using high-powered spells. I'm not familiar with what a telegraphed ability is. Would you mind explaining? I do think the idea behind the Chaotic Touch is a great one. I'm reading this as she's unpredictable and thus seen as dangerous -- a loose cannon, basically. it's very interesting, but I'd need to know a little more. My understanding here is that she's unpredictable, and so...maybe is better at confusing enemies? Or misdirecting them? This seems more like a feint type of thing, or a losing track of her, than an outright dodge. Dodging would need to be improved by...well, dodging. But her always moving unexpectedly confounding people, that I would agree with. Firestorm focuses on AoE that trades a decrease in damage to an increase in number of targets (or area of effect). Allowing her to use them at all seems a bit silly. Perhaps, because she uses them often, she has either a larger area, a higher damage, or a better range? Maybe she casts them faster? *shrug* The idea of multicasting would need to be strengthened by practicing focus, maintaining one spell while casting another. I think it's hard and would require practice, and thus she's better at it than most, but I'm not sure I'd let it be joined with another benchmark. Also, to me, that feels like it'd fit better in mental. I have no idea if there are questlines at all, so pending [@Gowi]'s feedback I can't even say if this is possible to have. Unlocking a skill might be formatted as acquiring an item, or it might be a book that teaches you how to do the skill. I don't know. But saying "unlocking" again gives a very game-mechanicky feel, and I don't think Gowi wants that. I love the idea of a spell that drains the caster but basically immolates the field. I'm not sure if it fits as a benchmark, nor if the specific way you're implementing it would work. Glassblowing is a profession. Elian is a dancer. This is not a benchmark. It's just something she does. I'm going to say this is not a benchmark, unless you say she's better at it (which /might/ be physical, as it's a matter of doing), or knows more about it, or...something. Exploration is good! And Elian likes Redsky already. Just reading a map doesn't seem like much, but saying they're better at deciphering cryptic maps, extrapolating things that aren't marked from things that are, and a good sense of direction, these are all excellent. Negotiator is a nice idea, but...again, what's the benefit? Anyone can talk. Is she better at convincing NPCs? *flails* And it's about here that I figure Gowi's really the one that should be handling benchmarks because I'm not consistent in how I look at them and I'm not entirely sure what he's looking for to start with. x.x Calming others...okay, interesting. Perhaps wild beasts? I honestly don't know if psychological effects on other players, outside of actual spells or something, would be valid. Gowiiiiii...? However I do know that benchmarks are not things you start with. They're things you practice and achieve. *flails* I realize these two things kinda rule out a lot of mechanical benefits because how exactly do you describe being more helpful to teammates without numbers? But all I can do is flail. *flailsmore* She knows a lot about magic. Simple, straightforward, makes sense.
A few nitpicky things: Skyla's appearance -- is this a nickname or a typo? love her or **hate her Overall, I really like her. There are a couple things in benchmarks that I would change, but even though I spewed a textwall, really, I could see most of them working. ^.^;; I just...I'm me. I'm not entirely sure how I ended up in a position of power and really as long as Gowi's okay with it I'm probably not going to argue too hard. Unless I do. I should shut up now. x.x A note -- if you lot haven't figured it out already, I am cheerful but hyper and regularly eat my feet. I appreciate your patience, as a general rule.
