And why? I find that I have no preference either way, but some people do and I'm curious to see their reasoning.

While I personally have no preference, my trend tends to indicate that I play younger characters which may be because of my ability to relate to them better due to the closeness in age.

I find that I am most comfortable playing characters around my age as well.

The advantage I see to playing older characters is that they have more accomplishments. It's not very convincing to be a teenager who solved world hunger, took collage for ten years, and built a hundred homes. An older character allows for that, as they had more time to do stuff with their life.

Younger characters are cool because they are still figuring themselves out. As a result, they can have a view of the world that doesn't line up with what everyone else sees. There are many experiences that they haven't felt yet, like loving a stranger or traveling the world. Younger characters feel these experiences more intensely because they haven't done them.

we have no clear preference. Some characters are old, some are young, some are in between. It all depends on what purpose the character is supposed to fulfill. Some characters get their age set by how they might relate to another character. Others by the amount of experience we want them to have from life.

I normally go around early to late 30s; they're more believably experienced than younger characters and I feel like they're more uncommon than young adults in most RPs.

I'm cool with whatever age, but I feel as if I make too many younger characters, or just characters in their twenties. Probably because of the RPs I run, or whatever.

I prefer my characters to be of an age appropriate to the setting and to the specificity of the context in which they exist. By means of practice and use, preference shall ebb and fade. Preference gives way to effortless, incidental utility and the evocation of worth beyond the expectations of the writer who made them.

If that makes any sense.

I tend to stick with ages from 11 (pokemon trainer ages) to late twenties. Why? Because those are the ages I can mostly relate to since I'm in a 10 year age range betweem those ages.

Around my age, because I don't have to put as much effort into trying to make my character's dialogue and thought patterns believable for their age.

I tend to pick older characters, both because I find I better relate to "older characters" and because I tend to make my own niche character wise - as roleplays will often tend to attract younger characters, I like to compensate with an older one.

In my canons I have a fairly equal amount of older and younger characters, and at the end of the day I don't really care one way or another.

At least 18+. Playing younger, especially when I play mostly females, just feels a little weird to me. For the most part though, my characters are around the 25 to 30 age, but the last few have been above 30 by a year or two.

Guess that's a result of me being able to relate to them more than other age brackets.

Depends on the roleplay for me as well!
I've played as young as 10 and as old as 67 personally.
But usually I do mid twenties just because that's what I know best.

I'm 13 myself, so I usually don't feel that comfortable writing characters over 15, 16 at the very oldest.
So the prevalence of 18+ RPs really limits my options.

I use to prefer characters who were older than me but these days I have been playing characters who are five or ten years younger.

Younger. I tend to lean towards 11-15 year olds, because they are close to me in age.

I prefer to play characters between the ages of 20-40. I like to have mature characters whom are still able to hold their own without having the draw back of age really kicking in. I can do younger than twenty though but not it's not something I particularly enjoy.

I play anywhere from 17-50, both genders. Anything older than 50 its harder for me to imagine what they'd be like, given I'm only 17 myself. Even Late 30s to early 50s I have to really put myself in the shoes of that character.

I'd say I have a bias towards younger females, and older males. No particular reason, I just find both sides interesting.

Older. I'm pretty young in the grand scheme of things anyway, so there's that, but generally I play people who are older than me from about 2-10 years.
