Hamsters are known for fucking like, all the time, and having loads of kids. He's calling Arthur's mother a slut.

Back in the day, alcohol, particularily wine, was made from elderberries (and still is to some extent, delicious shit that is.) so, saying someone smelt of elderberries meant they drank a lot. He's calling Arthur's father an alcoholic.
