The explosions that shook the city made him more concerned with each and every passing moment. What if there were intruders? Tatiana was tough, and he knew that she could handle herself...But he wanted to be there for her, more than anything. He had his weapons holstered, but years of being a cop meant that he was always ready to draw in a moment's notice. "Thanks for taking care of the walkah, man," Jack said, nodding at Bazhooli. The thought that it could be a set-up only served to make Jack more and more nervous. With the world having gone to shit, people seemed to take that as an excuse to treat others like shit. The logic to it was sad, but terrifying as well. Who could trust anyone these days? But at the same time, the thought that the people of Newnan would let him help already warmed his heart. He could trust these people. Once they arrived at the crash site, Jack glanced at Ash, awaiting further orders. Military command wasn't too different from the chain of command in the police. And he really didn't want to get on Ashton's bad side. It wasn't the type of impression he intended to make. Her mind flashed back to childhood memories, running around the streets of Justice, and dashing in and out of alleyways to ditch the few cops who still gave a damn about law and order. Those had been the days, when a jail cell was the worst type of hell. But with the explosions coming from the settlement, a new sort of hell could descend upon her quickly. And Beatrice wasn't in the mood to be eaten to death by the walking dead. "Those explosions are going to attract a bunch of walkers!" Beatrice continued. "Once the hoard has cleared, I'll move on!" If they had any human decency to them, they'd let her inside. But with all of the guns pointed at her, she felt like it was just as likely that they'd pump her body full of lead, and riddle her with holes. Though, she figured that was still a better death than the walkers. And she disliked the fact that she had to raise her voice, in order to be heard. Silence tended to be key when avoided the walking dead. A fact that these people appeared to fail to understand. The kid looked too sick to introduce himself, but Chloe kept herself focused on her own patient. She kept the pressure on for fifteen minutes, but from the lack of further supplies, she continued on with it. It wouldn't hurt, and it was all she could do to stem the blood flow. It was ironic, Chloe realized--it took the world ending for her to do work in the profession she studied for. It took the world ending for her to abandon a life of drugs and regret. In a way, it was a second chance. She desperately wanted to ask if they knew her sister. From what they explained, with blood type matching and blood transfusions on hand, they had to be part of some sort of settlement. And Riley wasn't dumb--she would've found these people by now, Chloe was positive. The vehicles approaching, with more and more people jumping out of them, only confirmed her suspicions. If anyone knew where Riley was, it would be these people. However, as the wind stirred and revealed the bite on Astrid's neck, Chloe's hope changed to fear. Her questions died in her throat, and it was all she could do to keep pressure on Ray's leg. The woman was going to die and turn soon enough. And there she had been, entirely defenseless, laying down her own weapons. Was this her karma for everything she had done before? That she'd be placed so close to death? For all she knew, the rest of the people there were concealing bites as well. Chloe was slightly paranoid, to say the least.
