Monster's essentially right up my alley in many ways, with what I said previously being one of them because I generally dislike escapism when it serves no purpose beyond being escapism. Admittedly, I do prefer things to have supernatural elements, but Monster just did everything else so perfectly that I was able to ignore the lack of those in it. Generally speaking, I tend to have no interest whatsoever in stories that lack a 'literary fiction' quality to them. My tastes tend to be a bit too mature for me to get into many series outside of just a casual watch, though I've found a good number that I've enjoyed.

Anyway, based on what you said I think 'original anime plot ideas' makes more sense than 'absurd anime plot ideas', but then the vast majority of the examples in this thread definitely lean towards being absurd. If it's simply ideas that haven't been done, then chances are more serious ideas will be more original because the vast majority of shows out there are absurd.
