Being raised by a single mother wasn't easy, especially in a one bedroom apartment where your next-door neighbours were drug dealers and pimps with prostitutes going in and out on the daily. The fact that her upbringing was surrounded by nothing but chaos and struggles led the young girl to mature very fast, especially after her mother disappeared, never to be seen again, when Jessica was just 14. To this day, she still doesn't know whether her mother is dead or alive. When Jessica turned 16, she moved to Neo-Bay for a fresh start. Not that her life would be that much better, but hopefully it wouldn't be worse than it already was. When she arrived, she took it upon herself to develop some fundamental hand-to-hand combat skills in order to be able to defend herself better than the average Joe. She trained every single day, unless she was extremely ill or had a serious injury. Over the years, Jessica acquired various skills such as free running, Krav Maga, and some close-range weapons training. At the ripe age of 22, Jessica's small apartment which she had called home for so long was burn down by a local gang. Maybe it was a mistake, or maybe they were targeting her, but Jessica vowed vengeance once she learned that the only picture of her mother she usually carried with her was in the apartment that evening. With this new powerful thirst for revenge, Jessica stopped at nothing to find the perpetrators responsible for the arson. Over time, this obsession changed the young woman for the worse. She started turning to crime to get by, making any easy target into her victim despite their age, gender, or disability. Jessica simply didn't care about anyone else but herself, and the simple thrill of her new lifestyle kept her going. This went on for a few years until one night, Jessica broke into the home of no other than Tim Taggart. Despite her regular use of stealth in burglaries, she was caught as she was about to exit the second-story window. Jessica jumped despite Taggart's threat to use force, but he nonetheless delivered. He shot her with a non-lethal projectile, leaving her lying on the ground below, cringing in pain. Ironically, despite her disabled state, Taggart calmly made his way downstairs to compliment her skills. She had almost gotten away with it, and he'd never had anyone one-up him like that. It was then he offered her a deal: suffer the [additional] repercussions of breaking into his home, or join his new team of crime fighters.
