Name: Liotrent Subject: UNNAMED (Draft name) Description: A primitive looking insectoid that hails from the desert moon of Ezekiel, first discovered by a Human expeditionary force, fatigued from their long travel to the star system, they were described as being of low intelligence and not of import, their physiology resembled that of big mantises with their large front limbs fixed into an arrangement that looked similar to that of the praying mantises stance before striking, however it is theorized that these large appendages are used for digging out their large cavernous homes underground, they have shown no hostility, but further studies indicate that their intellect is equal to that of a human bar a few minute differences, they were intelligent enough to solve complex puzzles and their cooperation was on par with that of highly organized ants, though as they observed their behavior it seems that they were following a caste system similar to that of government, from large warriors, which have appeared to have grafted some sort of weapon system onto their back and their front facing limbs, to the queen who seemed immobile without the assistance of a specialized worker caste. it is theorized that the insects maintain their muscular physique even with the low gravity, is through intense labor, and warrior sparring, they filter the air and atmosphere, through a complex respiratory system that requires certain muscles in the torso to manipulate the cavity within their body to become a vacuum, therefore getting as much air as they need they also have pseudo-wings that have somewhat atrophied into a hard exoskeletal shell, but even that has been changed on the warriors to have some sort of armor. They speak a language but it has not been translated fully, it sounds like a series of clicks and chirps. They dispose of their dead in a pile, we have gathered that they do not feel attachment or emotions, at least not ‘human’ ones, this is the source of all physiological observations and theories made on these sentient creatures. The expedition kept a close observation of the mantis like colony of insectoids, it seemed they did not mind them being inside their nest, they observed, large vehicles for Sea, Space (I don't know how to describe their spacecraft yet), and Land being used, some for transport, others for more obscure reasons (Such as farming and military purposes), they have not been let into the depths of the colony, the warrior caste guarding the entrance to the deeper parts of the colony have shown a more aggressive stance, but from drawing on past knowledge of Earth’s insect behavior the expedition speculates that the depths of their underground are home to an agricultural ground of a fungus of some kind, perhaps to feed the colony, large protrusions and the light rumble around these protrusions indicate that either they get moisture from the air, or from deep underground in water pockets, either way, this would explain their sustainable living underground and further supports the theory of their food source, as the number of prey items in their immediate vicinity is scarce whilst the shrubbery though numerous, have shown signs of ‘harvest’, this also explains their mandibles and claws. Further survey of the planet showed many other colonies similar to the one that was initially encountered with more traits such as worship of a god, and sculptures are present, suggesting that the species of aliens are also artisans, though it is unclear whether they are all connected. Factions The Locusts (placeholder name) Nicknamed as such for their voracious appetite, they move from territory to territory in massive migratory columns, often bringing everything with them and abandoning their old homes for new ones that would be empty the next month after all resources in the area have been consumed. They are typically more aggressive. The Farmers (placeholder name) These are more permanent, settlers, having massive underground networks of farmland, and a vast expanse of hydro-farms to capture moisture from the air. They are less aggressive than their Locust counterpart, however they are still one in the same from genetic mapping of their species, they have just adopted two different strategies to their survival. The Imperial (placeholder name) These are a mixture between the Farmers and Locusts, and are believed to be derived from one or the other trying different tactics of survival and combining it into one, with large foraging parties, and a huge net of hydro-farms and underground agriculture. They are the most advanced of the two, being more well equipped and have more resources due to their tactics, it is unknown whether the cooperation of two Imperial type colonies, are due to instincts polygamy, or if the colonies are displaying a version of a peace treaty, or even if the two colonies are one and the same and that the two queens are actually from the same gene-pool, a sort of ‘cloning’ through biological means.
