In reality, it probably only took Mika about 30 seconds to make her decisions, but as she ran through the options in her head it seemed like it took a whole lifetime to decide. She was a lawyer, she pieced in clues of what she had and made a decision based on the big picture. Based on what she knew, she knew that the fairies were playing some kind of game and she suspected with the appearance of Amor and Ódio it was something to do with their emotions. What she knew of spirits and their games, she wasn't just  picking someone for a one off. It would have repercussions. Now, she really should have picked Maine, due to the fact she had just asked for an alliance and he would have been a sound alliance if he wasn't like her and just a touch emotionally stunted. It just wasn't the best combination, besides even with what he said, Mika didn't entirely trust him. Not that she didn't trust Kieran either but he was a clean slate, at least. Someone she could trust easier. 

It was that thought process that led her to go find Kieran, and she fumbled for the words. 
"[color=fdc68a]Don't take this the wrong way but I've been told I can take one of two people to the ball and I would rather it be you if you don't mind.[/color]" Mika asked Kieran, biting the inside her lip as she waited for his response.
