"Jerk with a heart of gold" is a coward's trope. It's for the people who want to RP as "badass" douchebags, but who don't want to suffer the IC consequences of pissing off the other players. Because if you hate their characters when they reveal how kindhearted they are through some selfless deed or other, that makes [i]you[/i] look like the asshole. And they're relying on that fact.
