A brief announcement - after thinking it over, I am currently removing all errors from my alterations list save those committed more than once. It makes more sense to punish [i]persistent[/i] errors than isolated ones, and this should hopefully prolong your characters' longevity somewhat. 

Be warned, I am counting errors made between posters and individual posts. So some accumulation is still to be expected.
