You know what, I was on the fence until I read @Bounce's post. I am interested in mixing some elements of Kingdom Hearts with Cartoon Network. As for shows, you guys already mentioned the shows that I mostly watch besides We Bare Bears. And sandboxes can be fine if it's done correctly and only in a small group.

Oh right, sorry...

1). Multiverse or Single Universe?
Multiverse.

2). Sandbox or no?
I don't really care about it being sandbox or not.

3). OCs?
Nope.

4). What qualifies as a Cartoon Network show?
I guess whatever shows air on Cartoon Network. Seriously, as long as the show isn't filling kids' minds with stupid shit then it's a Cartoon Network. After all, most of the audience are kids rather than adults. I guess we could add onto Raddum's list and see if these are good or bad shows.

5). How will comedic characters fit?
For me, I say that it depends on the user playing those kinds of characters. If they know how to make comedic original characters and do it well, then they are perfect for those kinds of characters. If they aren't, then they shouldn't do those characters and trying someone else out. Since I am not planning on doing a comedic character (and I am not good at comedy), I don't really have answer to that question.

6). Anything else?
None at the moment...

My earlier post is responsive. If I didn't address a specific point, it's because I have no preference one way or the other.

@Mr Allen J

One other thing from me:

Even though we are allowed two characters, nobody should be allowed to have both be from the same universe. This will lead to a lot of people just roleplaying with themselves if it was allowed.

Having a character from the same universe as someone else's character is fine however, or at least that's my opinion on it.

That might be a good call in my opinion.

But, there's something else I wanted to bring up that came to mind since everyone else is intent on a multiverse (I might be the only person who wants a single universe, sob).

Buuuuuuuut...

Would the Multiverse already made contact or no?
This might just be me reading into things, but this could prove interesting if we want to avoid the same cliches that are abundant in multiverse RPs, and have pre-existing relationships.

Perhaps?

There's a fair amount of crossovers and references between a lot of these shows that could provide existing relationships in one way or another by default. (KND and Grim Adventures being one of the older ones I can think of; Specifically the one where Grim loses his powers and Numbuh 3 takes his job for a 1 month trial period.)

This list Coverssome of the Cartoon Network crossover episodes over the years. Could be a good place to start.

Cartoon Network Invaded, I totally forgot about that. Though, I question the validity of some of those entries.

But, yeah, this is mostly helpful.

@Mr Allen J@Raddum@Bounce

I’m going to give you some advice. I do find this idea interesting, but whether or not I decide to actually join depends on the speed this game intends to move because my weekdays are busy, and I tend to post when I can either through my phone or when I’m around a computer.

Let me begin by saying the advice I am offering you is based on my experience being the GM of a crossover game that’s large and still running actively. This is not a bragging rights thing. I am really sharing with you the pros and cons I’ve run into, and also telling you things that have worked and didn’t work throughout my time being on this site 90% as a GM and 10% as a player.

1. Multiverse.
You have several characters who are going to come from various backgrounds. While crossovers do happen in Cartoon Network, they’re still dimensional crossovers. What I did in my crossover game is I made a single universe to act as a hub where other universes intersect. That universe is the primary universe and the only time we venture into other universes is on missions.

2. Sandbox: Yes and No.
10% of the people on this site can actually write without the GM holding their hand. 90% cannot. 90% of the people on this site need guidance in order to function. You have role players and then you have writers. Writers can carryon without guidance. Role players need a GM/DM because they can’t really go forward on their own.

In my crossover game, we’re currently finishing up a mission in another universe, but when we return to the main universe, there will be a period of sandbox. This period of sandbox allows those writers who can interact with others and carryon their stories do so. For those role players who cannot do this, I will be making GM events that they can participate in for XP, prize items, etc. It keeps the game active and moving and not stalled. Once those events are done, we’re welcoming in the new recruits/players and going on another mission.

You do not want sandbox to stagnate. You also do not want to leave people hanging. I’ve done that before where I was like, “Sandbox mode go!” The game died because people didn’t do shit even when they were free to do so.

3. OCs
I think this defeats the purpose of this being a Cartoon Network game. People should already be re-imagining their Cartoon Network character choice, which makes them OC enough. If you’re allowing people to completely make up their own character, then you’ll get those BS characters that are often a hybrid of others or something like, “I am the son of Dexter!” or “I am the daughter of Steven and Pearl!” some BS like that.

4. What qualifies as a Cartoon Network show?
If it’s on Cartoon Network and nowhere else. Are you allowing Adult Swim shows? Because then we have Venture Bros, Robot Chicken, etc.

5. How will comedic characters fit in?
You should make your life easier by not dictating how people should be playing their characters, and instead, allow those players wanting to play that character re-imagine him or her how they want. So a comedic character may or may not be comedic. It will depend on how the player makes him or her.

6. Anything else?
I keep a constant revolving door for players. Some drop out quietly. Some get butt-hurt and drop out. Some go AWOL. Some lose their muse and get all mopey and leave. I constantly get new people to replace the ones that left for whatever reason. This has made my game survive for a very long time. The Pokemon game, I am surprised that’s still active because I’ve had the same people. So that one I was lucky and just got dedicated players. The crossover one is surviving on half-dedication and the other half, revolving door of out with the old and in with the new. So it may be best to keep that door loose.

I want to add because I forgot to add it. I have a 3-day posting policy during missions. If a player hasn't posted in 3 whole days, then they will skip them on the 4th day. This keeps the game moving so that those who are active don't have to wait and suffer over those who aren't as active.

I remember a fair amount of the ones listed, but in certain cases these are just very short appearances in episodes where you might not even notice the characters. So those don't count for much.

@Holy Soldier really insightful post on crossover roleplays, and even roleplays in general. I find this:

In my crossover game, we’re currently finishing up a mission in another universe, but when we return to the main universe, there will be a period of sandbox. This period of sandbox allows those writers who can interact with others and carryon their stories do so. Wonderfully said, mate. I really appreciate you coming in and posting this, as it provides a lot to think about for roleplays in general, and how to keep things afloat while still being enjoyable. I especially agree with you about the difference between roleplayers, and writers: It's something I can really relate with regarding RPGuild.

@Holy Soldier Very good, I enjoyed reading your input, and I'll be responding to what stands out to me.

Holy Soldier

Hmmmm... the hub universe is a good idea since it'll be a good middleground for the part of me that (stubbornly) wants to go single universe. Especially if we want to be all Kingdom Hearts-y.

[quote-Holy Soldier]Let me begin by saying the advice I am offering you is based on my experience being the GM of a crossover game that’s large and still running actively. This is not a bragging rights thing. I understand your intentions fully. I am experienced with a certain genre of roleplaying, and I worked out the pros and cons well.

10% of the people on this site can actually write without the GM holding their hand. 90% cannot. 90% of the people on this site need guidance in order to function. You have role players and then you have writers. Writers can carryon without guidance. Role players need a GM/DM because they can’t really go forward on their own.

This is blunt, but true. I have learned the hard way that "do whatever" Roleplays never go as idealized.

Holy Soldier

Buuuuuuuut, this sounds like a good idea. A blend of plot, and some side arcs as a "breather" (since Roleplays with nonstop action r dum).

Are you allowing Adult Swim shows? Because then we have Venture Bros, Robot Chicken, etc.
Holy Soldier

I have thought about Adult Swim shows. The only problem is that their tone clashes a bit with the more kiddie shows, and I'm not one hundred percent on it. So far, I'm on maybe.

You should make your life easier by not dictating how people should be playing their characters, and instead, allow those players wanting to play that character re-imagine him or her how they want. So a comedic character may or may not be comedic. It will depend on how the player makes him or her.
Holy Soldier

Eh, that's fair.

Sorry if my responses are short and sweet, that's just the way I respond at times.

That said, I think we all agree on multiverse, no sandbox (instead an avengers style group), and no OCs. Since I assume most of the people will know of their characters, there isn't a need to write mountains upon mountains of lore. What I have decided is that we'll skip the whole "worlds collide" introduction, and everyone will know of the Multiverse, and have clashed.

Now, I should probably make an character sheet for everyone to dilly dally with, but I want to know which characters you're planning on writing. Only main character I plan on reserving is Dexter (who will be the Iron Man of this RP, and general leader dude). I might play a villain like, eh, maybe a B-villain from like Generator Rex, or Powerpuff Girls.

As somebody who is kicking themselves that they didn't get in on this interest check and discussion earlier, here are my answers to the questions.

1). Multiverse or Single Universe?

My heart says "single universe", but because I'd have worries about trying to fit everything together in a way that makes sense, my brain says "multiverse". Perhaps some sort of compromise could be reached involving sticking thematically similar cartoons into their own universes - it'd require a bit of work to make these groupings, but having three or four "canon" universes might be better than everything existing in their own.

2). Sandbox or no?

Much like my answer to number one - why not both? I prefer games where there's a bit of structure, to keep things moving along. I'm not so cynical to say that people need a GM to tell them what to do, I'm sure people can come up with their own plots, but especially at the beginning of a game, a bit of gentle herding to get people moving isn't a bad thing. There's almost certainly an interesting discussion to be had about why sandbox games don't work so well to be had here! Anyway, a game in which there are "here are things to do" with the occasional bit of "sandbox time" would be my preferred choice.

3). OCs?

I'm happy with OCs, though I probably wouldn't play one. If the rule was "No OCs allowed!", it wouldn't be a deal-breaker for me.

4). What qualifies as a Cartoon Network show?

The stuff that people have listed already is a good start. If it were me running this, and it's not, and thank goodness for that as I can barely keep my own game from turning me into a gibbering wreck, I'd start the list with "whatever people want to play a character from" and go from there - if somebody desperately wants to play a character from a 1970s cartoon that was re-run on Cartoon Network, then it's in the list.

5). How will comedic characters fit?

Go Punch Time Explosion and make everyone a fighter if it's going to be an action focused game. I like comedic characters, and I'm weirdly happy playing somebody who is absolutely useless in a fight, but if the main thrust of the game is going to be "action", not being able to take part in the action stuff might mean not doing much of anything, which would be dull, and make me sad.

6). Anything else?

Could I reserve BMO from Adventure Time?

I'm leaning toward either Ben 23 or Albedo from Ben 10.

That way it leaves the titular character free for someone to pick up, while allowing me to do what I find I do best... expand upon minor characters.
