I gotta say, I'm a lil confused. Are we supposed to just kind of make our own enemies to fight?

Also, and I'm not mad or anything, but it seems kind of odd to me to dictate the actions of another character. Like I'm fine with what Vash said about Nicholas but idk, it seems like that kind of thing could go wrong.
