Status update:

  • With the collaboration up, the next IC posts (apart from others that I might decide post up to introduce characters) are Tatiana and Sonya. I suspect that Lucia will post after Sven leaves the hotel. One of the 'player NPCs' is also getting an introduction soon. At the same time, Pudd and I will be working on the next collaboration with Leonard and Karlita.

  • For those of you who've got 'player NPCs', I should also let you know how the work in the character tab. Basically, once the character has been formally introduced into the IC, or there has been enough mention of them that they aren't just a name with no explanation (what 'Rose' is currently for Leonard), you basically post up their 'Public CS' into the same post as their respective player character. Some sort of effort should be made to separate the player characters from NPCs, but I haven't settled on the method. You shouldn't use the [ hr ] BBCode though, because that'll be used for something else on my end and it'll make things confusing.

  • The Chateau de Sophie now has an entry in 'The Glossary'.

  • The Maximilian Foundation now has an entry in 'The Glossary'.

  • Simon Chandler's CS has now been added to the 'NPCs' section of the character tab. Also, due to IC development revealing a secret about Simon during the same post as his introduction, he is now the first character to include the 'Spoiler' category, which is a method used to reveal parts of the 'Private CS' by placing them into the 'Public CS' after they get revealed IC.

Nicely posted there.

I'll work out my response soon enough, since I'm taking care of a few other bits of work for this currently. I'll also need to work out whether or not @Shadow007 would have Itzal wake up yet, or if it's just us for a while. Just so I know, is Adelbert the surname of her former husband? Trying to work out if Simon would call her 'Mrs. Adelbert' before asking if she would prefer 'Tatiana'.

I'm curious how you've taken to the recent developments, considering the last collab went a bit crazy. Anna's introduction was less eventful but I feel like it created the atmosphere needed for your appearance.

Thank you! Hopefully I didn't botch any details lol

Adelbert is Ferkos name that Tatiana took and kept. I suppose she could be called either Mrs. Adelbert or Tatiana/Miss Tatiana. I don't think Tatiana would mind any of those haha

They are very interesting Sho. I like the character interactions so far and all the collabs have been great. The details added about the language barrier not being an issue was a nice touch I think and Annas intro post was perfect for Tatianas entrance so thank you for that.

I didn't see any details that stuck out at me as problematic. I wasn't sure about the accent becoming less noticeable -- that was perhaps my only concern, but if all you're saying is that her English becomes clearer to understand then there's no issue. I wasn't particularly planning for Leonard's Brooklyn accent to go away or anything like that.

Cheers, at any rate, since I've had that Anna post in mind pretty much since I conceived the character (even before I upgraded her from NPC to player characters -- very little of her plot needed to change), and it's good to know the interaction was enjoyable.

I'm actually wondering how everyone's taking to the whole revelation about Simon, because it's technically upped the stakes of the plot a bit when you think about it. Only Itzal knows, but that'll change soon. Gillard got revealed too.

Important.

I'll try to keep this simple.

Discussion's currently taking place in the Discord channel regarding the possibility that this role-play might be getting transferred off the site. I've got plenty of reasons for this, and some of you know parts of the situation, but overall the last few days have escalated some problems that have been going on pretty much since I joined this site, and I'm frankly over it all. There's a rather high chance - though it isn't certain - that I'll be permanently leaving this site, after I collect all my data from it. With this said though, I don't plan to abandon this role-play.

With all of this in mind, I want to know how many people actually plan to stick with us if we do transfer.

I haven't actually confirmed if it'll happen yet, but pretty much everyone who knows the details seems to understand why I'm doing this; however, I still want to do what I feel's right by this whole group, since we have something good going here. Anyway, should the transfer occur, steps will also be taken to make the role-play more immersive and thorough than this site basically allows it to be. If the transfer doesn't happen, then everyone's just gonna hafta wait until I can tolerate this place again. Either way, it's fairly likely I'm leaving this site apart from this role-play (if it remains here).

As it stands, Ailyn, Phantom, Heap, Shadow, Pudd, and Tsu have all told me they're fine with it. Ed and Lotus only joined this site due to me (same with Ailyn), so they're likely good for it as well. I've just not spoken to them about it yet. Mostly mentioning these people here just so they feel no need to post their stance about it again.

I'll keep regular checks on the thread to see if people respond, but otherwise I'm only here to collect data for now.

@Shoryu MagamiI don't really have an interest in moving off site, even if I'm interested in the roleplay and have no issues with you personally Sho. So I would consider this my friendly resignation if you do indeed go through with that, no hard feelings on my end.

My thoughts are pretty much identical to Snaggle's. Though the concept of this RP is very engaging, I don't think I'll be doing an RPing other than on this site. I'll be resigning if the RP moves too.

I'll be wishing you and the RP the best of luck in the future, whatever course you happen to take.

I will be resigning as well if this moves. It's not necessarily the move itself, I was somewhat on the edge for a while now. Due to the way the RP is currently run and progressing, I essentially haven't been able to post in about two months now. And the pace of the RP itself has been easy too slow and cluttered for my liking. To be honest, I've just completely lost interest at this point. I don't think the RP is bad, it's just that the way of Management and pace don't suit me.

The move is a good moment for me to step out. I'm not willing to put up with even such a minor inconvenience for this rp.

I think I'll be closing things up shortly, for a multitude of reasons and after recommendation from some people. Things have gone mostly as I predicted they would here too. Working constantly on this thing has put my main project on hold and generally taken most of my time each day, and in the end a lot of that hard work was more or less for nothing, and is somewhat unappreciated. It's sort of something I'm not willing to deal with considering just being on this site has been detrimental to my physical and mental health for months now. Several people - even those on this site, just for the record - have been saying I'm better off without this place.

The amount of time I've worked on this role-play thus far is easily enough to have written the entire GRG plot as a novel. I even warned people back during the interest check phase not to take this for granted, because I could easily do this as a project of my own if I wanted to. Offering the project as something for people to share and enjoy, instead of just doing it myself, has turned into an inconvenience due to the lack of appreciation and investment with some people. I honestly figured it was worth if it people actually didn't take it for granted. Unfortunately, the few can ruin it for the many, and some people didn't really appreciate the depth this project has had so far -- IC and OOC alike, considering some didn't seem to even read a lot of the posts (or at least they gave no indication as such). My disappearance from the Discord - for technical reasons - doesn't justify the lack of communication or feedback within group, since the OOC tab exists on the site for a reason and those who neglect to use it are simply lazy. If people were having issues here or questions then it was also their responsibility to make me aware through the OOC, but only a portion of the group has made any real attempt to be communicative, and all of those people have expressed very positive opinions of this thread.

@Snagglepuss89@banjoanjo

The idea to make the transfer wasn't really my own, but rather something that was suggested to me due to several people really liking the way things have been going thus far and not wanting to see a good thing die just because I want to leave this place and due to some of the people in our group sort of killing it for the rest of us. Honestly though, I haven't decided yet if a transfer will even be happening, but considering I don't even remotely feel comfortable on this site - largely due to the quality of its community - and haven't for months I feel like it's for the best if I just move forward, whether I continue this project elsewhere - for those who truly appreciate it - or not. There's still a strong possibility I'll integrate the role-play's story fully into my main project eventually.

The flakiness, bad nature, and general superficiality of so many people on RPGuild just further emphasizes why role-plays seldom survive on this site -- I've been able to easily understand why the majority of the role-plays are dead here, instead of continuing or being finished, with just minor observation of the community since I joined, so I don't hold anything against myself for closing the thread. I don't feel like I made any real mistakes with the role-play either given how many people - both in and out of the group - liked my GM abilities from witnessing this project thus far, some of whom have asked to remain in contact with me now that I'm leaving this place. I've never struggled to make sure a role-play I ran work, assuming it didn't die due to flaky individuals vanishing, which happens here painfully often, and usually only happened on other sites I've seen if the site died as a whole. While this thread has been enjoyed a lot so far by those who appreciate it, despite barely even starting, I've lost all faith in the project bearing enough fruit on this site to warrant the investment I've given. Considering how inactive some people have been even in our group, there's no telling when they'll just randomly vanish and ruin things for the others.

With that in mind, if I do continue role-playing on sites, whether it be a reboot of GRG or some other project, it's definitely not happening here. This site, to quote someone I might call a friend, 'doesn't deserve' me. Both the community itself in regards to how they treat each other, and the overall commitment level, are worse than any site I've ever seen, and I've been on some pretty terrible sites before. I've only put up with the site for this thread and my friends, but after speaking to a lot of people I'm now confident that my projects would be more fruitful elsewhere, especially since not everyone was that committed to this. Those who were genuine about this can possibly continue it on another site - potentially my own, since some people have been waiting for me to create my next site for a while now anyway - if I go down the transfer route. It's a 'minor inconvenience' at worst, after all. With or without factoring the role-playing in though, the people on this site who're worth knowing can contact me elsewhere.

I might just quit public role-playing sites again. At the very least, I'll likely quit ones like this where you're inclined to meet far more bad than good. This site's moderation team doesn't make enough effort to keep the bad eggs out of the community -- it's like the member count is more important than the people here actually being decent, which also explains why zero effort has been made to lockout the bots from joining despite there being trivially easy ways to do that. My experiences on this site have reminded me of why I stopped joining large public sites in the first place, and why the best days of the role-playing life for me and my circle were on invite-only sites that I personally created and on messenger programs. Most role-playing sites, like most role-plays themselves, just aren't managed at the same level of devotion or quality that I look for and that I offer myself -- whether people appreciate that or not. Regardless of whether I reboot GRG or run another project, or simply go back to my main project exclusively, this sort of community does nothing but hold me back, even if I've managed to meet a select group of good people here who I'll continue to communicate with elsewhere.

I appreciate the best wishes given regardless - especially considering being on this site truly has been detrimental to me - as well as the appreciation you've both given for the project and how engaging (to use Banjo's words) it is, even if Banjo didn't get involved in the IC yet. It's nice to know even some people who weren't participating in the IC yet realized we had something great going here, especially considering the compliments I've received both in and out of the thread whether they be from this group or just observers.

@Melo

To be honest, I'd actually suspected some people had lost interest, largely due to problems that couldn't be prevented. I actually suspected it months ago, and even had an idea of which people it would be and even the reasons to an extent, which is why I posted up that big update for everyone about it a while back. I actually figured the depth of this role-play might be too much for some people, particularly with such a large group, which is one of multiple reasons I was reluctant to even host it here (another being that I haven't been comfortable on this site in general).

The pacing and such were largely unavoidable with such a big player number, especially considering several people started posting long before the whole group was here and I've more or less been unable to move this along for weeks - even months - due to waiting on people for various things. I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'cluttered', unless you mean all the posts or their length, or the amount of information and detail the thread contains so far, all of which is unavoidable in a large group and especially in an advanced group no less (advanced role-plays are more about in-depth characterization and such, not moving a plot forward as quickly as possible). Considering I'm ready to leave the site anyway, I don't think it matters what you meant. This role-play was posted in this section of the site for a reason, since it wasn't meant to be casual or simplistic.

Even if I don't continue this role-play (it'll depend on a few factors), several people already want in on whatever project I do next - assuming I do another project instead of just focus on my own writing - due to how I've managed it, so the problem is clearly some sort of unavoidable issue with preferences. That's not even factoring in all the people outside of this group who're acknowledging the quality of this thread, and those who want it to continue even if it happens elsewhere.

Nothing was actually ever stopping anyone from posting, including you, but since some people wanted to wait until the escort or the estate itself started - despite there being plenty of in-universe justification for the player characters coincidentally encountering each other (several parts of the IC made it clear that fate/causality was being manipulated in a way that completely justified any inherent 'coincidence' of the characters meeting up, and everything that took place prior to arriving at the estate was going to add depth to the events that would take place later on) - the wait for posting was inevitable to those people, because people recommended that I allow the role-play to start IC before we accepted everyone, and then we had some others taking a long time to register.

Some people told me they were fine waiting for the escort, despite being informed that it would take a fair while, since we needed to wait until everyone joined, so this actually has nothing to do with how the role-play was managed -- I made people aware in advance, and they were acting like they were fine with it, so I can't do anything about perceived 'problems' that people hide from me. If people lost interest or simply flaked out, that's not my fault - it's their fault, as they made no attempt to approach me about the issues - and frankly I won't tolerate attempts to insinuate otherwise after all the time I invested into this and how many people have complimented my GM performance and the thread in general. It's not my fault if people decided to ignorantly miss the details of the IC and understand that there was actually nothing 'coincidental' about members the group encountering each other before the role-play started. I honestly feel like some people were simply being lazy when they didn't get involved.

It actually was a problem with the role-play itself and nothing to do with how it was run, based on what you've said, because this role-play literally couldn't begin properly until we had the entire cast accepted, and people were taking ages to get things together. Frankly, this role-play required a lot more work and handling to manage in comparison to a lot of role-plays on that basis alone, and also due to being really in-depth as a whole. Nevertheless, it's easy to see now why role-plays don't survive on this particular site. A large group role-play like this can be managed, but only if the community is dedicated -- something this site sorely lacks, based on observation of the place in the last few months.

@Primal Conundrum

I appreciate the comments, and I'm actually curious what 'personality type' you're referring to. Does it have something to do with Leonard being adopted? I'm assuming that's who you're talking about, since I posted for him more than anyone else. That's assuming you don't just mean his overall personality.

Regarding the sites you mentioned, I've never heard of them, but cheers in advance for the warning. I've got no illusions about the fact that worse sites likely exist, but having names is useful. I've had a few people recommend some good sites to me over PM so far, but I haven't committed to the idea of role-playing again outside of my own sites currently.

There's a very small part of me that considered remaining here, but it's the part of me that's trying to ignore all the discomfort I have about this community. I feel like my whole mind state has become poisoned by this place as of late. Honestly, I only stuck around for some friends (who I can communicate with elsewhere if they're real friends) and for this thread (which honestly wasn't appreciated by enough people to warrant all the work put into it when I've got better things to do, and considering those who don't take it for granted can continue it elsewhere if they want there's really no problem closing it).

I'm also not the only one who's been wanting to leave this site, since it's been a recurrent topic with me and a few people. Frankly, the dedication level of this community - alongside how genuinely toxic and superficial people have been at times - has shown me that I'm too devoted and empathetic (and perhaps too serious and mature) for this place. Staying here will only set me up for disappointment, because I'm not able to put up with all these punks treating people they don't even know like shit, as well as seeing projects constantly die from lack of dedication. I was reluctant to host this thread in the first place on this site due to all of this, but I thought I'd do it for my friends anyway.

Anyway, I'll be around the site in the background for a while, collecting my data, so feel free to message me if you have something else you'd like to say.

I could've cut out the names of the people who've been in contact with me since I left the site, considering it's at least half of you, but I decided to just copy/paste the group list instead because 'why not'. This post isn't particularly something I want - or expect - a reply to at all, but rather just something I wanted to say now that it's been almost a year.

With my PC transfer soon approaching and subsequently things finally becoming stable, a reboot of this role-play is now in preparation for the people - both in and out of this original group - who were interested in it. I've also gone ahead with what I implied could happen should this first version prove not to be worth my time, and this project's story now has a canon version in development that's a direct part of my main project's setting and has in fact been used quite effectively to fill in some of the unfinished blanks in that project, with the role-play reboot being more something on the side than anything else. I'm not running the role-play until the interested parties have time to commit to it, since I don't have time for a repeat of this thread.

I'm not trying to recruit people back onto the team (those who want to be involved in the reboot know how to find me -- my bio provided the information, so anyone who hasn't yet gotten in on it is more than able to), but rather I just wanted to make a point about what's happening because this place is where it started. Though I had the basic blueprints of this project in the back of my mind ever since I played 'Cluedo' ('Clue' for you Americans) long ago, it was the people in this group who motivated me to actually develop it into something I could actually give my investment, and now I've even enriched my main project through it.

Since I probably won't hear from some of you again, and I'll be leaving this site completely (from the looks of things, and based off the statements of a few of my contacts who're still here, the community has only gotten worse since I left) once I finish collecting my data (there's been plenty of delays due to higher priority work), I've decided to use this opportunity to leave you all a message. I'm writing this largely on a whim, which is ironically how I joined this site and met you all in the first place.

Given the events after I exited the site, I'm confident the role-play would've had to come to an end even if I hadn't left. Not only did a few of our more invested members become busy and have to disappear soon afterwards, but others disappeared from the site with no warning (although I get the feeling a couple left precisely because this thread was what held their investment here). Combine that with some of the issues I mentioned previously in other posts, and this thread was pretty much doomed before it started.

I predicted the thread ending up like this, and predicted who'd cause it. Some people simply didn't have the dedication for a project like this and should've stuck to casual role-plays, and certain IC details completely went over some people's heads too. There were people claiming their lack of activity was due to being busy off the site, but that didn't stop them remaining quite active (IC and OOC) in other threads, so I saw through those claims from the start. I would've had more respect for them if they'd just been honest and admitted they weren't dedicated to it, or come and spoke to me about any perceived 'problems' they were having.

Honestly, when all is said and done it's just further proof that first and foremost you need to make sure you only allow people you can trust into your projects, or at least confirm the maturity and dedication level of someone before you allow them to get involved, and also shows how unreliable and irresponsible this community is. My opinions about the maturity level of this site haven't changed. With that said, I'm not gonna waste my time going into exactly who/what I was happy with during this thread or exactly who/what I wasn't happy with, since that'd be pointless. I certainly share Ailyn's sentiments in her last post, but there's no point dwelling on it, and those who let the project down either know who they are or are too immature to realize who they are.

I really only have one thing I came here to say - everything up until this point was just my writing things as they came to me, with the sole exception being when I informed people about the future of this project's story - and that is 'thank you' to those of you within the group who actually did put effort into making this project what it was both IC and OOC, even if it didn't last too long. You provided me with some of the motivation I needed in order to create this project, and I'm continuing to make those seeds grow into something I'm truly proud of. I also enjoyed the chatting, even if some of those potential friendships ended up being fruitless when push came to shove. To the people who actually invested in and appreciated the project, you have my gratitude.

And with that, I bid you all 'adieu'.
